Dear Wikibase Community,
As the year winds down, we want to take a moment to wish you all a wonderful transition into the weeks ahead—whether you’re celebrating the holidays or just enjoying the change of pace.
It’s also the perfect time to look back at what we’ve accomplished together!
This year, Wikibase has grown in ways that make it easier and more accessible for everyone. We added features like VisualEditor, personal JavaScripts, and stylesheets—things many of you have asked for, especially if you’re transitioning from Wikidata. We also worked on making the platform smoother and more friendly based on your feedback.
Moreover, we built partnerships with organizations all around the world, showing how Linked Open Data can make a real difference in building inclusive, sustainable digital systems. And let’s not forget the creative projects, like Copy-Paste-Waste, and the growing use of Wikibase in research, like the Mimotext project and the new DHWiki Working Group.
One thing we especially enjoyed, was seeing some of you more often in person/remotely. Whether you joined the Federated Queries Workshop, the Wikimedia Hackathon or the AI Sauna. It's always great to gather in one place.
We couldn’t have done any of this without your ideas, feedback, and energy—thank you!
Please note that our team will have limited availability over the next week as we take some time to recharge. But don’t worry—we’ll still keep an eye on things and help out where we can. Starting January 2nd, we’ll be back to provide more hands-on support. Here’s to 2025!
We’re so grateful to collaborate and learn from you, and we’re looking forward to continuing to build an open, connected, and inclusive data future with you all.
Here’s to everything we’ll create together in the new year! 🎉🍀
Warm wishes,
Valerie Wollinger (She/Her) Community Communications Manager Wikibase
