Hi folx!
I’m Jon Amar[1] and I’m wildly excited to be the new WMDE Product Manager for Wikibase Suite. This is such an extraordinary movement, and Linked Open Data has a very special role to play in enabling more people to freely share in the sum of all knowledge. How cool that we all get to be involved!
Wikibase Suite, along with Wikibase Cloud and Wikidata, is one of the three pieces that make up our work for the Wikibase Ecosystem. Wikibase Suite is what we call the self-install version of Wikibase, a platform that many of you already have a rich history with. My colleagues and I have a lot of learning and listening to do to understand how we can best contribute to Wikibase, so that we can build a more equitable and sustainable Linked Open Data ecosystem.
We’re currently working on building up our capacity on the Wikibase Suite team and getting to parity with the Mediawiki release cycle. As we work on synthesizing the feedback we’ve received from you so far, I am keen to continue to connect with you and to listen and learn from you. What gets you excited about Linked Open Data? What challenges are you facing to make the most out of this platform? What fruitful areas can we focus on that a self-install version of Wikibase is particularly well suited for? I’m all ears, so please reach out to me (jon.amar@wikimedia.de). We’ll also be reaching out over various channels over the next months, and I’d love to hear from you there as well.
I’m looking forward to getting to know you and finding opportunities to learn and collaborate together.
Warm regards, Jon Amar (they/them)
