March 25. Raise a glass, friends. I hope it is a wonderful year for you, Doc.
Please mark you calendars now for the last week in September or first week in October of 2012 for the next weeklong reunion adventure. How's that for chutzpah?
Love, Madge
Oh, dearest Doc, Happy Birthday! I thought you were born in April. Thank goodness you¹ve been on the planet for a month longer than I knew. And perish the thought, what if you had never been born? Earth would have gone out of orbit. Thanks for everything, then.
Love, Alice
Dear Madge! You go, grrl, I¹m IN!

Doc We love and respect you and hope that when we reach your age, that we are just as active, intellectually sharp and engaged with the world as you are. As George Bernard Shaw said: "Men are wise in proportion, not to their experience, but to their capacity for experience."

How great it is that it's your birthday, Doc! Friday is always a good day for birthdays.
Like someone else here, I had the impression your birthday was in April, but of course that was Shakespeare. Easy mistake to make.
I'm a little troubled to realize that when Shakespeare was my age, he'd been dead for two years.

Happy Birthday, Doc! We New Yorkers will indeed be raising a Brooklyn Lager or two in your honor tonight. In celebration, I've also uncorked (ok, actually just unscrewed the cap of) a fine chardonnay from the Plump Jack vineyard in California, and so we'll certainly be wishing you a happy birthday with our usual Falstaffian gusto.
Best, Bob

Dear Doc and everyone,
I missed all the birthday excitement because as you may have seen on CNN we've had big doings in London and as a result had more people in and out of our flat than usual. Doc, my favorite moment of the whole reunion was the little toast your grandson gave in which he declared, 'I have the best grandfather in the whole world!' He hit the nail on the head: the many greetings and warm wishes coming to you are a reflection of the families you have headed--we are all your children and grandchildren, too, and we have been given a legacy that will never fade.
Belated happy birthday to you, Doc. And know that, far away as I am, I'm toasting you, too.

Thanks, Madge. Began the day with cake and coffee at Round Top Mercantile with the morning seminar group discussing fence building, how to trap wild hogs, who cooks the best stew in the county, and why Duke lost to Arizona last night. I led the last one. Then learned that Kyle Fricke (little Michael, Knight of the Burning Pestle, '89) became a father this morning at 6. Kyle was 9 in '89. Kyle is VP Round Top Bank, graduate of TAMU. Then went to the funeral of Corine Levien, who with her husband, Cordell, and a couple of others cooked our Shakespearean pre-performance stew for some 15 years, and every one of the stews for the Second Shepherds' play. For everything there is a season.
Hope you and the kids and Lisa are doing well.

PS Great idea for '12.

Doc
PS Great idea for '12.

I love you, and very much loved hearing about your day...sitting with friends, discussing pertinent issues, and enjoying life for as long as we have it...I hope it goes on and on!! much love, kathy
And 2012 sounds perfect!!

That was so beautifully said that I'll just add a humble heartfelt ditto. Many Happy Returns Dear Doc. Have a great year! Love to all, Joy ----- Original Message ----- From: McDonald G.mailto:G.McDonald@soton.ac.uk To: weeklong-l@lists.wikimedia.orgmailto:weeklong-l@lists.wikimedia.org Sent: Sunday, March 27, 2011 4:51 AM Subject: Re: [Weeklong-l] Happy Birthday, Doc!
Love to you and to all my brothers and sisters, Gail ________________________________________ From: weeklong-l-bounces@lists.wikimedia.orgmailto:weeklong-l-bounces@lists.wikimedia.org [weeklong-l-bounces@lists.wikimedia.org] On Behalf Of Clay Stromberger [cstromberger@mail.utexas.edu] Sent: 25 March 2011 23:41 To: weeklong-l@lists.wikimedia.orgmailto:weeklong-l@lists.wikimedia.org Subject: Re: [Weeklong-l] Happy Birthday, Doc!
Our turn down here to be jealous of a get-together -- hey, send a photo of you all taken at dusk with the Brooklyn skyline twinkling in the background, would ya...?! Have a great time and we'll try to time the lifting of a glass down here to approximately sync up. If Maggie Mike David and all the West Coasters do the same it'll be a triple-coast toast to Doc -- and Craig on the shores of Lake Michigan makes four...

Best, Bob

How great it is that it's your birthday, Doc! Friday is always a good day for birthdays.
Like someone else here, I had the impression your birthday was in April, but of course that was Shakespeare. Easy mistake to make.
I'm a little troubled to realize that when Shakespeare was my age, he'd been dead for two years.
