Here it is. A work in progress.
--------
Dear ______________
After more than three great years as General Counsel at the Wikimedia
Foundation, I decided to make a change. I have already played a central role
in turning Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects into sustainable efforts
that will continue to bring value to the Internet for the foreseeable
future. And I provided the legal shepherding necessary to grow the
organization from a staff of half a dozen to an operation employing more
than 50 technical and administrative works, while revenue grew from under
two million dollars to more than 20 million.
Now it's time for me to do something new. I'm writing you now because I hope
you may have thoughts about where I should look next.
*What am I seeking and where?*
I am interested in either in-house counsel role or consulting opportunities.
Here are some business areas for which my skills and experience are
particularly good fits:
1) Social Networking
2) Intellectual Property – particularly Trademark and
Copyright
3) Software, development, licensing, and privacy
implications
4) Internet companies
5) Startups of any sort that are looking to take
their professional organization to the next level.
*What are my differentiators ?*
Throughout my career, I've consistently been ahead of the curve when it
comes to identifying legal issues arising from widespread social use of
computer technology and the Internet. I was one of the first to identify
computer-crime prosecution issues, Internet free-speech issues, and
copyright and privacy issues. I am nationally known as an expert on these
issues, and I have a great track record at proactively addressing them
But I combine my theoretical knowledge with a solid grounding in solving
immediate problems. New organizations and new products need a lot of
problem-solving done in a hurry – I'm good at that, as my experience at
Wikipedia and elsewhere shows.
*Can we help each other?*
*I'm reaching out to you now, but I want you to feel free to reach out to me
if you think there's something I can do for you – finding a job, or finding
a candidate for a job you want to fill. *I know I know a lot of people now.
Perhaps, I can make a connection for you.
And one other thought – if you see something good, keep sending possible job
opportunities or suggestions my way---I may not have all the ideas, but I
sure can recognize good ones when I hear about them!
Thanks for reading this, and thanks for any help you can provide as I try to
turn jobhunting hassle into hustle.
