Matt, You have got to watch that whole movie in one sitting. I love that old Russian actor. When he goes mad, he's the best Lear I've ever seen. Trust me, during those scenes you will not miss the beard.
Last month I had the privilege of seeing Chris Plummer as Prospero in Strtford, Ontario. Now that guy's a staggering Prospero. At 80 years old, Plummer played the part as the man who had seen it all and knew how to fix it all with some tricks up his sleeve and a knowing irony. Ariel was played by an Asian acrobat who seemed not to be man or woman but a unique seductive creature of a third, never seen before, gender. Great stuff, although, Caliban with a Canadian accent was a bit rigorous on the imagination. michael

Reviews are mixed so far, apparently. Nonetheless, I can't wait for the Taymor *Measure for Measure*.
Michael, I'm at act II in the Kozintsev *King Lear*. Why doesn't Lear have a beard?

Wow -- who knew The Tempest was as explosive and spectacular (and loud) as "Lord of the Rings"!?
I've wondered for a long time why no one's made a real film of the play. I wasn't a huge fan of "Titus," but Taymor is brilliant and she's got some good actors in the mix. Should be a treat. Michael, you'll probably see it before any of us -- send your review once it's ready!
