Thanks Ms. Suhler for the -uh- encouragement?. Actually, the word from my wife (she of the highly sensitive nose) this morning is that the crisis appears to have eased. I'll wait a few years before trying the scratching and sniffing trick, thankyouverymuch.
And also, I promise to read carefully all the emails this evening, which I'm sure I've totally misjudged in their avalanche-like presentment. . . .I mean ....so much confoozhon. . .

Dear Grumplepuss:
I once had an old Lab that was skunked, and for what seemed like years we could scratch the top of his nose and still get a whiff of it. Skunk scratch-n-sniff. ________________________________________ From: weeklong-l-bounces@lists.wikimedia.org [weeklong-l-bounces@lists.wikimedia.org] On Behalf Of Robert Jackson [rjax@netcom.com] Sent: Monday, July 26, 2010 11:28 AM To: weeklong-l@lists.wikimedia.org Subject: Re: [Weeklong-l] Brunch and BBQ
Hi there!
I left town last Wednesday afternoon, reconciled to an all black costume and sandals; I went to the Pennsylvania countryside where there is no internet, no email, not even cell phone service, looking forward to reading and relaxing and a little bit of shopping. And there I experienced a long weekend devoted to de-skunking my dog who picked a fight and lost, Thursday night, with that black (with white-stripe) costumed species. On Saturday, I traveled an hour to Scranton and went to Dick's Sporting Goods and found a really fine pair of Keen's Hybridlife sandals that were perhaps the first pair of sandals I've worn since my hippie days at UT, and despite the fact that the staff and the other customers were passing out from the residual skunk smell on my clothes I succeeded in purchasing these, and later at a nearby Macy's, some nice BLACK clothes (which were hermetically sealed to avoid contamination). I returned to my house in the country and put back on my haz-mat suit and washed and treated my poor dog for the seventh or tenth time with yet another formula guaranteed to get rid of the smell, before driving back bumper-to-bumper to NYC Sunday night, got 5 hours sleep, came into my office and found ONE HUNDRED AND SIX "WEEKLONG" EMAILS ABOUT CONTUMES AND RESERVATIONS AND SWATCHES, AND PHOTOS AND---
----DID YOU PEOPLE GO NUTS?! Or am overreacting to my TOXIC long weekend?
My costume is set. The Oracle can't change! That's why he be the Big O. Boots are out. Sandals are on! Great! No problem!
And I ain't voting on nothing. Democracy-fah!
(I do hope Bradley is okay.)
All I know is I will arrive on the 7th. Sandalled. And fresh as morning roses, newly washed with dew.

About $1000. One of your colleagues has already contributed $500.

Dear Doc,
Bradley and his family are in our thoughts and prayers, too.
And please let us know how much money you would like to raise to underwrite the catered meals.
Love,
Mary

I now have cost estimates from the two caterers, for the brunch and for the BBQ supper. The first will cost $25 per person, the second $15. Or $40 per person for both. If I can find several folks willing to underwrite some of the costs, we could reduce the price per person? Anyone know of anyone or two or three who might be willing to do that? I would do something but right now I am putting some money into a kidney transplant for my son Bradley.
