I happened to see the "Women of Will" production described in the review that Jackson circulated. It was a pretty amazing depiction of the development of Shakespeare's female roles over the course of his career. And septuagenarian Tina Packer actually captured the giddiness of a teenage girl in her depiction of Juliet and, even more importantly, captured the richness of Juliet's amazing lines. The multiple variants of Kate that the reviewer alludes to included one done in a voice mimicking Marilyn Monroe. Not mentioned in the review is that the performance concluded with a passage from King Henry VIII: Wolsey's blessing of the baby Elizabeth I (the "maiden phoenix")--a speech, by the way, that might pair well with Elizabeth's real-like Tilbury speech that Mike G quoted for us a while back. In any event, if you're in the Berkshires at any point this summer it's worth seeing this production.

Interesting that you should mention that--the many Kates, that is--as Stan and I were chatting not too long ago about how funny it would be to do the Shrew wooing scene with one Petruchio and six Kates....six women on stage, bantering with one Petruchio, coming at him from all sides as it were.....
That'd make any man a bit crazy I would think.....

Jackson, So that's what you were doing when we had dinner the other night. Must really be something when you're on a case as private detective. I've never seen you so effusive. Your guaranteed to have many opportunities throughout the week with a variety of Kates. mb

Dodgerly artful? Perhaps. But "by our show you shall know all. That you are like to know."
I too would like to unburden with perhaps an opposite (converse? infinitely bound?) problem with regard to scenes. I have for the last six months been doing Petruchio wooing Kate. Alone in my home. On the street walking to the subway. On the subway platform, on the subway, in my office, in the elevator to my office, in line at the bank, in front of the bank teller, yes, in the bathroom mirror, in my seat at the theater! - I confess it all. No, not occasionally -pshaw - When I wake up in the morning, when I go to bed - Every freeking day! I don't even try anymore to cover it when I realize people are looking at me. I'm lost in the infiitely expanding comedic insights I believe exist in the scene. (I dimly recall a similar more general, yet malarial, winedale syndrome suffered in my youth). And, yes, I am probably fooling myself! People can laugh -ha-ha, poor Jackson! - It's all be done! (yawn!) before! (again, yawn!)- exactly like this, I'm sure (although, I've never seen it this way). "I don't care!" (Tommy Lee Jones - "The Fugitive") I've lost all personal dignity, I'm lucky my wife hasn't left me, my son, perhaps, well, he's a little worried I guess, maybe, so I'm begging you each and every one of you - I'm an old man, for godsakes! --please give me five minutes in the barn - accompanied for my safety, fine, or Alone, I don't care anymore
- I've got to get this MONSTER out of my system!
Thank you for your time. I'll be quiet now. Go about your business, folks, nothing to see here...
-Jackson

Doc, Just to throw this out there, if it does not work out and you need a backup. My filmmaker daughter Kate who is in graduate school at Columbia currently, is an old hand at shooting footage like this, lots of interviews and filming an ongoing film production (which is not very different from this). She shot an impressive "making of" for us when we made White Countess where she interviewed Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Vanessa and Lynn R, and Ishiguro, as well as some of the shooting days (when james ivory allowed it). I'm sure she would do this gratis. Just let me know if you want to consider this possibility. Camp Shakespeare sounds like a home run this year.

I very much agree, Bruce. I will ask Trey to look into his second option.

Doc not sure if you are asking for opinions, but here is mine anyway... I would say that I am fine with having someone else film the "special footage". From my perspective, I would like to hear and preserve candid conversation and personal connection, not merely the "performance". For me, it has always been about the process and the people and not what we do in front of the audience....
