Actually, that sentence is riddled with number issues -- is "general public" singular or plural? Wouldn't "they" have multiple ex-boryfriends and neighbors? I'm calling it a day and going home.

Yeah, we get a lot of that. But my company helps people get INTO the country by making it cheaper for attorneys to file their cases. Occasionally we get calls from the general public, though, asking if we can throw there* neighbor (or ex-boyfriend, etc. etc.) OUT of the country because (they say) they're here illegally.
I like to think we're good guys -- even though we're all Giants fans.
