Hi. At Wikinews, we have an audio sub-project - Audio Wikinews. It records the daily news in a radio-broadcast report style. Anyways, we upload the ogg files to commons, which is great, but iTunes/iPods don't like vorbis, which is a large potential audience. Would it be allowed to have a podcast feed on the toolserver, with mp3 versions of the files also on the toolserver so we could get audio wikinews into itunes?
I imagine having a podcast/rss feed is within the rules, but having the mp3's on the toolserver seems borderline as a non-free format, and somewhat like using toolserver to serve actual content (although its not really wiki content). Anyways, I thought I'd ask just to see.
Thanks, Bawolff

I don't see the problem with the format... there's no requirement to freely license code running on the toolserver, and our webserver is ZWS, a propritary piece of technology.
No comment on whether that constitutes serving content.

This seems to fall under distributing article content, which is not allowed. Even if you don't read the articles verbatim, there is still a legal liability issue if you, for example, distribute a podcast containing incorrect or libellous material from the Toolserver.

no, that would not be possible. At first you would breach against the "don't serve much content"-rule and the second problem is, that we have no MP3- license. The mp3-format is still under patent and you have to pay for it (see [1]).

I figured it wouldn't be allowed, but thought I should ask just in case. Thank you for your responses. -- - bawolff Caution: The mass of this product contains the energy equivalent of 85 million tons of TNT per net ounce of weight.
