Hi,
I need to make a dump of "page" table (enwiki db) but I'm having a problem. I use the mysqldump utility: mysqldump --skip-lock-tables -u <user> -p -h sql-s1 enwiki_p page > dump.sql
dump.sql contains only the table structure, no data. Where do I go wrong?
Thanks!
Mauro

don't do this. It need too many resources in any way. If you need a file for grep, so a downloaded dump, if you need live-data, use mysql.
Sincerly, DaB.

I need to make a query between itwiki_p (sql-s2) and enwiki_p (sql-s1). Is it possible? I think I need to download an ufficial dump and make query on my pc.

It is possible, but with some glue.
I do that in my Golem using just bash and sql scripting.

Why can't you just run the query across databases? What query are you trying to run?

Cross-database queries I know, but cross-server queries are new to me. Is that even possible?

Ah, I see. The databases are on different servers. I don't know how you'd be able to do that, no, not without a lot of manual work.
I'm just a lurker here, so I don't know if the toolserver machine is running a recent enough MySQL, but there is a table type called the "federated" table, see http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/federated-use.html
For the most part, this makes it possible to use a remote table that you have access to in SQL commands in the same way one might normally use a local one.

except that it's _much_ slower than local databases. too slow for the sort of queries (joins, for example) that people would want to use it for.

I decide to make the query local using the ufficial dump.
Thanks for your support!

enwiki_p.page is not a table, but a view. mysqldump (correctly) dumps the view definition only. if you wanted the data, you would have to dump the page table (enwiki.page), but for privacy reasons, these tables are not visible to users.
