I have found MySQL often breaks - my PHP script throws errors for a while but if I check back in a few hours (or sometimes just refresh) it is fixed again.
Isn't really issue, but I thought I ought to report it in.
I have a cronjob on hemlock connecting to the Commons database once a minute and when it's set to connect to zedler, I get the error "2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'commonswiki-p.db.ts.wikimedia.org' (4)" about 20 times a day, sometimes more. Apparently the 4 means "interrupted system call". They come in bursts so it's probably related to load somewhere. Where though, I have no idea.
On yarrow I don't get these errors, which shows that the problem isn't in hemlock's end. Unfortunately Commons replication seems to have stopped on yarrow.
Could tcp connection and some mysql statistics be added to http://pascal.knams.wikimedia.org/ganglia/?r=day&c=Kennisnet+misc&h=... to have more data to compare with?
