user-store (temporary) back, willow will rebooted friday

Hello all, like announced we have set up a temporary workaround for the user-store until hemlock is fixed. It should work now, the only exception is willow. I can't mount or umount the user-store on willow and the directory looks strange. So I hereby announce a reboot of willow for tomorrow, Friday, 16:00 UTC. The downtime should be 10 minutes. osm2pgsql style used by the toolserver

Hi. For local testing I would like to set up a small extract database of osm data with the same style as it has been used at the toolserver. Therefore I need - the style file used for importing - any unusual options used (I know about -k (hstore containing all tags) and about the prefix (sure), anything else? Would be great to get more details about that. regards Peter

/mnt/user-store is away

Hello all, hemlock had another disc-problem and needed a emergency-reboot. It is back in action now (more or less) but it lost one of its partitions. This partition carries the user-store. A check-up (fsck) is running at the moment and it will take a while to complete (I guess the hole european night). Most things should work, but nothing that needs /mnt/user-store. Maintenance-window for webservers Monday 20:00-22:00 UTC

Hello all, like announced on last Sunday I hereby announce a maintenance-window for Monday, 20:00-22:00 UTC for the web-servers. I will reboot hemlock a few times to try to find out why the web-servers are not working if hemlock is away (and if I find it, I will fix it). Maintenance of s2 and s5 Monday, 1st October

Hello, as tomorrow is maintenance window anyway I will add more disk space to s2 and s5. In the time of the work the databases s2 and s5 will not be available. This will take about 1-1.5 hours and I will do it when DaB checks the hemlock & web server interaction at 20 - 22 UTC. Cheers nosy

Reboot of the linux-boxes at Monday 19:05 UTC

Hello all, because of a kernel-upgrade I have to reboot our linux-boxes (nightshade, yarrow and mayapple). This will happen tomorrow, Monday, 19:05 UTC. I will reboot the boxes one after the other, each reboot should not take more than 10 minutes. If you use SGE (like you should) your task will either migrate to another box or restarted automatically. If you have files open (like in a editor), you should close them. Reasons for not migrating to Tool Lab

Perhaps it is useful to summarize reasons why toolserver users are not able to change to tool/bot labs. I added my main reasons. Perhaps other can add their reasons, too? (Mabe we should also add this list to the wiki page) temporary blockers * no replication of wikimedia wiki databases ** joining of user databases with wiki databases * no support for script execution dependency (on ts: currently done by sge) * no support for servlets missing support blockers * no support for new users not familar with unix based systems * no transparent updating of packages with security problems/bug permanent blockers * license problems (i wrote code at work for my company and reuse parts for my bot framework. I have not the right to declare this code as open source which is needed by labs policy.) * no DaB.

October, but I forgot the re-announce it and I'm sure some of you forgot about it too. So the switch is hereby announced for 9. October, 20:00 UTC. Jobs that are executed after this timestamp and has no arch-option will run on any host (linux or solaris) instead of a solaris-host. There are 4 ways for you to prepare (sorted): -Make sure that you program runs on linux AND solaris, add "arch=*". -Make sure that you program runs only on linux, add "arch=lx". -Make sure that you program runs only on solaris, add "arch=sol". -Do nothing, pray and see things break.
