https://twitter.com/debian/status/577013271657648128 A nice opportunity for giving a nod to a major free culture institution from whose work we have been benefiting for many years.
...and while we are at it, this followup too: https://twitter.com/faidonl/status/576821405502844928 (As a news item, these performance improvements might even be worth a little blog post, but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.)

For the record, I just retweeted this from @mediawiki after Ori endorsed it from the performance engineer's perspective: https://twitter.com/igrigorik/status/578329790861549568 Probably too specialist for the other feeds (also, the juicy slides are somewhat buried in the middle), but I'm mentioning it here just in case ;)
Suggested retweet from @mediawiki: https://twitter.com/techreview/status/583613623504764929 (too specialized for the other accounts, but our developer community should find this quote interesting)
Also, for the record, I just sent this out with Ori's input: https://twitter.com/Wikipedia/status/585186967685619712 (the job ad was already tweeted from @wikimediaatwork a while ago, but applications are still welcome, so it doesn't hurt to put it out again with a more interesting wording ;)
Suggested RT from @wikipedia: https://twitter.com/tele_education/status/588312336449978368 ("University Challenge winner Ted Loveday: I learned my answers on Wikipedia")

Considering there were no objections (and that Andrew later suggested to feature the same article on the main accounts), I did the RT.

Epilogue: With 232 retweets and 153 faves, this became by far our most popular tweet since the NSA lawsuit announcement a month ago. Speaks to the popularity of such tech topics.
Tilman I saw this! I think this should bean original post.

Any idea when this would be announced?
Seems nobody got around to actually RTing it (although this went out at least yesterday: https://twitter.com/Wikipedia/status/615606022317731840 ) - I just did so.

No real issues from mediawiki but this one worries me a bit from
@wikipedia. It just sounds a bit too technical/inside baseball. Even I read it and went "arbitrary access? WTF is that?" before thinking harder and realizing they mean being able to call within templates etc. I worry that the vast majority of our audience would have no idea what this is.

OK, done from @mediawiki only. No strong feelings about that one, but just
as a general remark I think there is often value in (re)tweeting something that might not be 100% accessible to all followers, but gives even laypeople sort of an ambient sense of awareness ("OK, I don't fully understand what's going on there, but nice that there's apparently progress with Wikidata and Wikipedia".)

You're both raising good points, but Kiwix and Wikiproject Med have a good
reputation in the movement for what they do, and as a default assumption I would trust a major chapter to use the "Wikipedia" mark responsibly and adequately. (I'm actually working in the WMF Reading team, i.e. the engineering department responsible for mobile including the main WP apps, although this RT suggestion does not constitute a papal blessing or anything ;) I am more concerned about an official WMF-run Twitter account promoting Wikiwand, as it happened recently.

I've set up alerts for myself when a verified Twitter user tweets #keepitfree. We're talking to the advancement folks about social support for the upcoming English-language campaign, and I should have more on that soon.

That's a fantastic idea. IFTTT recipe?
RTing that looks good to me. :)
We're talking to the advancement folks about social support for the upcoming English-language campaign, and I should have more on that soon.

I’m on the fence about these personally - has mobile weighed in on
these
set of apps?
You're both raising good points, but Kiwix and Wikiproject Med have a
good
reputation in the movement for what they do, and as a default
assumption I
would trust a major chapter to use the "Wikipedia" mark responsibly
and
adequately. (I'm actually working in the WMF Reading team, i.e. the engineering department responsible for mobile including the main WP

promoting
Wikiwand, as it happened recently.
