Hiya
My thought would be that since the Quarto might be sent to non-wikipedians, preferably stick to full languages names on the left. Most people do not know our codes... Keep short en, es, it for anchor on the top as for Quarto though...
Hmmm, I like it :-)
In case Fire does not answer in the next few days (I think I saw him about everyday on irc. but this is Easter), I think people like Kate or Brion can be asked to help for the ml.
Cheers
Ant

I think I've done about as much on the email as I can. I've taken out the image because, having read up about it, it seems to be harder than I originally thought to put these things inline. So, my version for the moment is attached with links working links as much as possible, anchored, and Spanish translation. Aphaia, could you possibly get some others translated? Also, I've added the text code of the email onto the Quarto talk page: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:WQ You could change it there yourselves (if html isn't too daunting) or email me with your changes, translations etc. There are details like the little sign under the c in Francais or the accents in Romana which i can't do, so I'll need your help on that. Still no feedback from mailing list people - will email the others you mentioned, Anthere - I have Brion's contact details, but who is Kate? Cheers Cormac

Thank you for your draft, Cormac. With a help of Dundak, a German user I added German version on talk page.
Anthere or other French speaker, could you add French version too? Of course other language like Italian, Dutch or Polish will be welcome!

Thank you Aphaia and Dundak, and thanks to Sj and Anthere for clarifying that point of whether we'll send this email now or not. Two more points:
Further translation: Aphaia, if you can't coordinate all language translations yourself, should I post a message onto some Meta goings on pages or a translation of the week? Any suggestions?
Clean-up: as I said, I am a little ignorant of non-Roman scripts and cannot be absolutely sure which oriental language is which, so I'll need you (again probably Aphaia) to say definitively which one is Chinese, Japanese - and the same will go for cyrillic scripts, arabic etc. And if people with fancy keyboard skills could add accents (I can only manage é) to letters, that would be great.
And links: if people are doing translations could you either keep the links in the same order that the English one is in so I can do the links the same way or, of course, do it yourself :) Ok, that was three points - i just remembered the links at the end.
Cheers Cormac
Thread summary for translators-l ---- This thread comes from quarto-l. Cormac offered to care for mail distribution of Quarto and related mails. He prepared the first newsletter by mail, which reports the WQ2 publification. Draft is now on meta (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:WQ#Publicising_Quarto_by_html_email) It should contain announcement in several languages: de, en, es, fr, it, ja, zh (an idea).
And now we are calling for translators! ----

I send a carbon copy of this mail to translators-l.
Sabine, could you help us to translate it into Italian? I would like a Zh Wikipedian to help us, too. yuanml at pku.org.cn or other Wikipedian. There are many francophones on translators-l, and I expect you help us ;-)
The english text is the below:
<td width="318"><p><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><a name="en"></a>The second edition of Quarto, the Wikimedia Foundation newsletter, is <a href="http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Quarto/2/En-1">here</a>! #And as for French, Esperanto and Spanish, Wikimani registration form needs also your help ... ;-)

The right place on meta to publicize that would be 1) under m:Translation requests 2) linked to from Goings-on
Translation of the Week is specifically for a minor and under-noticed article on some project, not for general translations.
Aphaia, it would be nice to have a generic blurb of the form: "Please help improve communication among projects. The Project Name project with the goal of Goal, needs translation help: you can help here."
We could then have people translate Project Name and Goal for each new mutlilingual project, add in the right URLs, and quickly produce a "please help" blurb that Cormar, or anyone, could distribute to each project's Village Pump...
The mailing list is now set up. Please sign yourselves up here: http://mail.wikipedia.org/mailman/listinfo/foundation-news-l
Cormac, can you reach out to the people currently listed as wanting to receive the Quarto by mail?
