Dear all (if there is any),
I just confirmed for this list and think it is a good idea to start to introduce myself ... and ask who additionally is here.
I am Achim Raschka from the German Wikipedia and I started a project called Festivalsommer (means festival summer) in the beginning of this year. For this project we got some budget to buy three sets of festival cameras and we sent out wikipedians and commons photographers to several festivals over the summer period. I think we were quite successful with a total of more tha 70 festivals visitied and by now more than 12.000 pcs uplaoded from more than 500 bands or artits - you can find an overview on those outputs at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Festivalsommer/Bildergebnisse_2013
For 2014 we will go further to our second round - and I think it is a very good idea to have some links to other international organised photographers since there are several overlaps and other cool ideas in the wiki world starting from sports and music photography to aerial photographies and others.
That's me - who are you?
Achim
We all seem a bit shy…
Let's introduce myself then. I am Marie-Lan Nguyen (User:Jastrow) from the French-speaking Wikipedia. I am located in Paris.
I have been taking pictures with the support of the French chapter for several years, first in political meetings and more recently in sport events. Chapter support is rather critical because of France's press regulation rules: you must derive more than half of your revenue from press photography to gain a press card. And without a press card it's hard to gain access to major sports events: I was recently refused accreditation for the ATP Paris Masters (tennis) because of this. So the plan is to build experience/a portfolio through minor (i.e. poorly televised) sports in order to talk our way into big (association) football, rugby or tennis events.
My biggest project this year was the fencing world championships in Budapest. Getting an accreditation is easy in fencing. I stayed there for 7 days and took 500 Gb of pictures (about 1500 pics/day), which are still in the process of being edited and uploaded to Commons. Fencing being one of my favourite sports, it was a very exhilarating, if exhausting, experience. France holding several fencing world cup or major competitions, I hope to be able eventually to illustrate the articles of the top 30 fencers in each weapon.
Marie-Lan

Hi all,
Dear all (if there is any),
Thanks Achim for starting here! Just so you know, we are currently 16 subscribed to the mailing list :)
I'm Jean-Frédéric, [[User:Jean-Frédéric]], located in Lille (France). I'm mainly active on Wikimedia Commons, but I am no photographer and upload virtually no pictures I took. :-)
I also serve at the board of the French chapter Wikimedia France. As such, my current interests include how to best support photographers - yes, YOU! ;-D - in any possible way (accreditations, lending equipment, encouraging participation...) ; and how to best highlight their work (tracking content, measuring impact, building communication...). I look forward to reading the discussions here and get a better understanding of how you folks work, and how I can help.
(I'm also one of the two listadmins here - if you need anything feel free to ask :-)
Hello, I am Yves Tennevin, [[user:Esby]], located in Toulon, south of France, I am a somewhat active on Wikimedia Commons. I cover anime convention in France, when I can go there. I am also in the french chapter, but for now I am a bit lurking for this year, excepting the few covers I did. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Esby/Festivals
The chapter support for this kind of event is in my opinion not really needed as long you have enough photo to present your activity. Getting accredited is somewhat random, sometimes they give it, sometimes they don't. The more important they are, the less they are willing to give press accreditation.
Hello all,
I am Sylvain Boissel, and I work as a tech manager for Wikimedia France, and a small part of my job is to lend the photo equipment of the chapter to the French Wikimedians who request it.
I am not a very good photographer myself, so I doubt I'll ever actually cover en event for Wikipedia or Commons, but I'm interrested ;)
Best regards, Sylvain.
