Dear all,
As Antonin mentioned in his email last week, WMDE will be hosting an
networking event, 14.06.24, to bring together those who already have
experience with use of wikidata/-base to build linked open cultural
heritage data, with the goal of initiating a community of practice.
More information below and on the event page.
Thanks!
Lucy
*Netzwerktreffen kulturelles Erbe, Linked Open Data und das Wikiversum*
*Termin*: Freitag 14.06.24
*Uhrzeit*: 10.00 – 15.00 Uhr
*Ort*: Wikimedia Deutschland e.V., Tempelhofer Ufer 23-24, 10963 Berlin

Hi all,
Just after the Netzwerktreffen organized by Wikimedia Deutschland, the OpenRefine project is holding its first ever "BarCamp", an event for all interested OpenRefine community members, partners and stakeholders who want to help shape the project’s future.
It's a BarCamp, so participants are encouraged to propose informal sessions around the topics or activities they would be interested in participating in. No need to be an OpenRefine expert to join! For instance, we would welcome sessions around experience reports from projects you carried out with OpenRefine, presenting other tools, which OpenRefine should take some inspiration from, co-working on translation or documentation… we are very open!
https://barcamps.eu/openrefine-2024-barcamp/
Hoping to see many of you there (and please do forward the info to whoever might be interested)
Antonin
Hi All,
A new and long-awaited course has just been released on using openrefine to
upload images and other media to wikimedia commons. Openrefine is currently
the best tool for batch uploads to Wikimedia Commons and the first to
include support for adding structured data
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Structured_data>.
The course is not yet available in German. Let me know if you would really
like to see a German version of this and we can look into it :)
Thanks!
Lucy

Commons: the basics"

Hello!
We are happy to announce that there is now a free and publicly accessible
course on the learning platform, WikiLearn, on how to upload and edit files
on Wikimedia Commons using OpenRefine: *OpenRefine for Wikimedia Commons:
the basics*
<https://learn.wiki/courses/course-v1:Wikimedia-Foundation+WMF_GLAM001+2023/…>
.
OpenRefine <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/OpenRefine> is a free
data-wrangling tool that can be used to process, manipulate, and clean
tabular (spreadsheet) data and connect it with knowledge bases, including
Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.
This online course is available at any time, for free. Anyone with a
Wikimedia account can enroll with the click of a button. It can be followed
at your own pace, with computer-graded exercises. A certificate is awarded
at the end to those who complete the course.
The training is suitable for Wikimedians, Wikimedia affiliate staff, and
partners (e.g. GLAM staff and Wikimedians in Residence). Accomplishing the
course should take an average of 6 to 8 hours.
This course was developed as part of the Wikimedia Foundation's training
and sustainability grant to OpenRefine
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OpenRefine/Training_2023-24>.
It is currently available in English and can be easily translated into
other languages (more about the translation process here
<https://studio.learn.wiki/meta_translations/discover_courses/> and here
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tutorial_on_how_to_translate_course…>).
Translations for this course in French, Spanish, and Portuguese are being
worked on and will be available very soon.
Please, feel free to share this course with people you think might be
interested in learning more about OpenRefine or Wikimedia Commons, who are
part of your network, in groups, social media, or any other places.
Thank you!
Best,
Giovanna & Sandra
