Hi folks,
Is there someone who is currently serving as Wikipedian-in-Residence at the Walker Arts Center? Or someone else in Minneapolis - or even Chicago? Or is there a previous WiR who could be in Minneapolis during June 2013?
Merrilee Profitt (of OCLC) and I would like to propose a session about Wikipedia/Wikimedia/GLAM, etc. at the forthcoming RBMS preconference (Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the American Library Association) which meets in Minneapolis in June 2013. It would be nice to have a person who is actually participating in a project or has done so in the past.
Let me know! Thanks!
Hi Bob,
I don't know of anyone in Minneapolis who has served as WiR at the Walker. I do have some contacts at the Minneapolis Historical Society who are going to be doing an event soon, that I'm supporting from afar. I can introduce you to them - they are staff members though. Lori has some contacts for local WIkipedians, I believe.
If all else fails, and grant/funding can be secured I'm sure someone could be flown there for the event.

Just chiming in to say that I don't think this is the sort of thing where we can get funding since we are proposing it as a regular session (it's not a keynote or anything). We aren't even guaranteed to have our proposal accepted! (Although of course I think the organizers would nuts not to want to hear about fantastic collaboration opportunities like this!)

Well, if the participation of a local Wikipedian isn't available, and you are in need of the participation of a Wikipedian (no matter where they live in the States) then that Wikipedian (or the proposal writers) can submit for a Participation Grant through the Wikimedia Foundation, which will fund the travel and participation of that Wikipedian for the event: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Participation_Grants
Just letting you guys know about your options :)
