Hi Dorothy, I would love to talk with you about this, as we are discussing doing something that may be similar at the Chemical Heritage Foundation here in Philadelphia. CHF would like to create a regular meetup/info sharing opportunity to bring together the local GLAM & Digital Humanities community, including Wikipedians. (Working title: Glam Cafe)
As of today, I officially returned to the Chemical Heritage Foundation for an additional 3-month position as their Wikipedian in Residence. Our first event will be an Edit-a-thon at ThatCamp Philly 2013, on Friday, September 27, 2013. In person and online partiicpants are welcome; you can get an early start on Ada Lovelace Day (in October) by working on our list women chemists and resources at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Philadelphia/2013_September_2...
It's short notice, but you'd be very welcome to attend if you can make it to Philly! I'm hoping we can do some brainstorming about the Glam Cafe idea after the edit-a-thon, perhaps after dinner. Thanks, Mary
I'm a WiR for a large consortium of libraries and archives in New York, and I'm trying to establish a system for local GLAMs (of which there are many) to share resources, projects, and events. This would be different but possibly associated with the Wikimedia NYC chapter- the difference between them is that the purpose of this group would be to have GLAMs talking to each other, and right now, Wikimedia functions as more of a training/facilitating/article writing resource as far as I understand.
Has anyone had experience with setting up a localized GLAM-Wiki group or chapter or any ideas about online platforms for this type of group?
I'm considering different options like having a Wiki-Project: GLAM/NY Chapter page, having a local GLAM blog, or a local GLAM Twitter. Other ideas or precedents?
Dorothy
