The Colored Conventions Project, in conjunction with the University of Delaware Library and the University of Delaware History Media Center, plans to host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the University of Delaware on Saturday, April 26.
The program will start at 11:00 a.m. with an Intro to Wikipedia Editing Workshop, led by Mary Mark Ockerbloom, the Wikipedian in Residence at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia. Mary will give an overview of topics including Wikipedia culture, the writing style of Wikipedia, and nuts-and-bolts how-tos.
After the Intro Workshop, the Edit-a-thon will begin at 1:15 p.m.
Attendees are welcome to bring their own interests and data for entry in Wikipedia. Attendees who do not bring data of their own are invited to use the biographical and other information resources gathered by the Colored Conventions project, which covers a neglected, critical period of African-American history. The biographical information about historically important men and women of color could help to fill the current deficit of such information on Wikipedia.
