I'm excited to announce the following event:
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM TO HOST WIKIPEDIA “GUGG-A-THON” IN EARLY OCTOBER
The Guggenheim Museum will host a Wikipedia “Gugg-a-thon” on Tuesday,
October 7, 2014 from 2pm - 8pm, to support contributions to Wikipedia’s
content on museum architecture. Join us at the Guggenheim to add
information about museum architecture to the world’s largest source of free
knowledge during the fourth annual month-long Archtober festival.
The program will include welcoming remarks by notable scholars in the field
of museum architecture, an overview of the Guggenheim’s own architecture
and design, and background on Wikipedia’s role as an institutional partner.
The agenda also includes a free, backstage, architectural tour of the
Guggenheim Museum. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration
strongly recommended. Remote participation encouraged.

Dear All,
*After a brief hiatus, monthly GLAMouts will resume just after Labor Day
this September, on Thursday September 4th at 3pm EST.*
As you may know, GLAMouts are an opportunity for U.S.-based and other
Wikipedians working in GLAM institutions or affiliated projects to share
project updates, discuss recent initiatives, and ask each other questions.
It is also an opportunity for those interested in GLAM-Wiki U.S. to
introduce themselves and learn from other community members.
I encourage you to RSVP and sign up now on our event page
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/GLAMout/2014/September#Attende…>
if you are interested in presenting so we can all get a better idea of the
agenda. So far I’ve added a few suggested topics to the list and you are
welcome to claim one of those if you like as well.
Per usual, we will be using a Google hangout which will be emailed to
confirmed participants beforehand, added to the Wikipedia event page just
before the hangout, and Tweeted out via @glamwiki, my own account
@DorothyR_Howard, and the accounts of other regular GLAMout participants.
The video will also be streamed on Youtube for those who just want to watch
and the link will be made available on the event page on Wikipedia.
Please forward this message widely to those you think may be interested.
Best wishes,
Dorothy Howard

Greetings! The Wikimedia Foundation Individual Engagement Grants program is
accepting proposals for funding new experiments from September 1st to 30th.
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG>
Your idea can improve Wikimedia projects by building a new tool or gadget,
organizing a better process on your wiki, conducting research on an
important issue, or providing other support for community-building. Whether
you need $200 or $30,000 USD, Individual Engagement Grants can cover your
own project development time in addition to funding for a team to help you.
The program has a flexible schedule and reporting structure, and
Grantmaking staff are there to support you through all stages of the
process.
Do you have have a good idea, but you are worried that it isn’t developed
enough for a grant? Put it into the IdeaLab, where volunteers and staff
can give you advice and guidance on how to bring it to life. <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IdeaLab> Also, IEG will be hosting
three Hangout Sessions for real-time discussions to help you make your
proposal better - the first will happen on September 16th. <

For inspiration, you can read more about past projects that received
funding<https://blog.wikimedia.org/tag/individual-engagement-grants/> or
review open proposals <
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG#ieg-reviewing>. We are excited
to see some of the new ways your grant ideas can support our community and
make an impact on the future of Wikimedia projects.
Submit your proposal in September!

Warm regards,
Ocaasi and the IEG Committee
