Hi all!
The next GLAMout is Friday September 6! (That's currently "tomorrow" for US
folks but "today" for those further east.)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/GLAMout/2013/September
GLAMouts are monthly live Google Hangout on Air sessions where we discuss
developments in GLAM-Wiki. It will also be recorded for later. This GLAMout
is 3–4 p.m. EDT | 12–1 p.m. PDT | 7–8 p.m. UTC. The link to the video will
be available via Twitter on the @glamwiki account and #glamwiki hashtag,
and also shared with this list. *Please join the conversation by using the
#glamwiki hashtag!* We've had great success with this in our past GLAMouts.
The GLAMout is a chance to share important news or progress on GLAM-Wiki
projects. We did not have an August GLAMout due to Wikimania, so this one
will likely be pretty packed with updates. If you have additional updates
please do add them to the October GLAMout agenda so we can be sure to
include them next month.

Thanks so much!

Thanks for your efforts with improved GLAM documentation. It's always a
high need. I'm sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner. I was traveling for a
presentation.
I absolutely agree with the premise, but I'm extremely disheartened by the
direction that the conversation has gone on-wiki.
It's rare that I get a Wikipedia-related pit in my stomach nowadays. But I
guess no one's ever immune.
My thoughts can be found on-wiki.

Hi US Friends,
I'm GLAD to introduce you to our forthcoming Europeana 1989 online
Wikipedia Challenge that will take place during *October-December* 2013
In this challenge all of the participants are invited to improve Wikipedia
articles related to the European Revolutions of 1989 in your own language.
We have selected a short list of topics that may be improved or translated.
It would be great if the history-related GLAMs among you can join the
challenge.
You can register and read further info at the challenge's page on meta:

Hi GLAM-Wiki-ers,
There is a conversation going on at Wikipedia
talk:GLAM#<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:GLAM#GLAM-Wiki_Section_in_Manu…>GLAM-Wiki
Section in Manual of
Style?<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:GLAM#GLAM-Wiki_Section_in_Manu…>,
about the potential for a GLAM-Wiki section or page of the Manual of Style
that could use your input.
I drafted some reasons why I think it would be helpful to have a GLAM-Wiki
MOS, which I've posted on that page, and are also below.
Post to the talk page or reply to this email to discuss further.
1. The GLAM-Wiki movement is rapidly growing and more GLAM professionals
are searching for resources to help guide them in adopting editing policies
everyday.
2. There are dozens of GLAM-Wiki resources dispersed throughout
Wikipedia, with similar, overlapping content. By synchronizing these
resources, there could be more understanding and common language within the
GLAM community.
3. Though there are dozens of GLAM-Wiki resources, new
Wikipedians-in-Residence often still feel the need to generate more guides
because there is no definitive version.
4. The Manual of Style already includes information and templates that
speak to the GLAM-community, but it would be helpful for GLAM editors and
Wikipedians-in-Residence if they were aggregated together. The closest
things we have now are: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Visual arts#Museums
and collections<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Visual_arts#Museums…>,
red links in outreach:GLAM/Model
projects<https://outreach.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAM/Model_projects>,
and a whole lot of different learning resources in the GLAM
Bookshelf<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:GLAM/Bookshelf>,
as well as some resources floating on user pages, GLAM pages, etc.
5. GLAMs have a lot of documents and artifacts, such as museum
collections, catalogs, finding aids, and archival materials, that can be
difficult to put into the current templates provided, and questions about
these materials are extremely common among GLAM professional Wikipedians,
especially in the early days of their involvement with GLAM-Wiki.
6. Adding GLAM content to the manual of style would help WiRs and GLAM
editors resolve disputes by having particular pieces of MOS code to cite on
talk pages.
7. It would be helpful for private, non-GLAM editors to have a GLAM
manual of style so that they could help monitor and regulate GLAM editing
and watch out for COI issues.
8. GLAM-Wiki editors have a unique set of conflict of interest concerns
that could be laid out in the Manual of Style and/or (a) page(s) addressing
those concerns could be linked to in the MOS.
Would love to hear from you! Thanks!

Hi,
I'm a WiR for a large consortium of libraries and archives in New York, and
I'm trying to establish a system for local GLAMs (of which there are many)
to share resources, projects, and events. This would be different but
possibly associated with the Wikimedia NYC chapter- the difference between
them is that the purpose of this group would be to have GLAMs talking to
each other, and right now, Wikimedia functions as more of a
training/facilitating/article writing resource as far as I understand.
Has anyone had experience with setting up a localized GLAM-Wiki group or
chapter or any ideas about online platforms for this type of group?
I'm considering different options like having a Wiki-Project: GLAM/NY
Chapter page, having a local GLAM blog, or a local GLAM Twitter. Other
ideas or precedents?
Dorothy

Hello all,
I'd be happy for someone to help take on the task of both reminding about
GLAMouts and consolidating the GLAMOut topics afterward. I do not have the
capacity to continue to do so, so my involvement will just stifle the
potential of sharing the valuable information in these GLAMOut sessions
--and the potential is great!
It's also been difficult to find the time to get the videos documented
on-wiki. We're still working on these kinks in the process.
If anyone is willing to help take the reigns of organizing GLAMOuts (even
if it's just a single task among the many), please feel free to reach out
to Dominic and I.
Thank you,
Lori

That sounds great Mary. I can definitey be there Friday, September 27th.
I'm also working with a THATCamp organizer in the D.C. area from George
Mason University. Might be neat to connect with them as well.
