Hi all, Apologies in advance if this isn't the best place to ask this question...
I am a volunteer at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and am working to optimize the organization and discoverability of its publications in BHL and also on Wiki platforms.
I am currently working on publications of Theodore D. A. Cockerel https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_D._A._Cockerelll In the External Links section of the Wikipedia article about him I'd like to add a link labeled 'Works by T. D. A. Cockerell at BHL" that points to https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/creator/1941#/titles. IMO, this is justifiable since the links to his publications in Internet Archives don't include articles by Cockerell for the most part.
Before proceeding, I'd like to know if people think that such links are warranted and useful for this Wikipedia article and others.
Thanks in advance for advising me! Susan Lynch
Hi Susan,
Not only are those links wonderful and very useful (IMO), but there’s even a template to make adding and maintaining them easier!
If the author has a "BHL creator ID (P4081)" property [2] on their Wikidata page (like TDA Cockerell does [3]), you can add “{{BHL author}}” to the external links section to get a line that says “Works by Theodore D. A. Cockerell at Biodiversity Heritage Library” with the appropriate links. And since this information is being read from Wikidata, any corrections made to the Wikidata item will be immediately reflected on the author page as well!
If the author doesn’t have that property on their Wikidata page, you can say e.g. “{{BHL author|1941}}” to get the same links, but it would be more useful to add their BHL creator IDs directly to Wikidata so that the {{BHL author}} template can pick up that page automatically. This will make it easier for someone to add the same link to the articles about that BHL author in all the other language Wikipedias that have articles about him (for example, TDA Cockerell has articles in the Spanish, French, Italian and Russian Wikipedias, among many others).
cheers, Gaurav

Hello, Gaurav and Susan,
Thank you, Susan, for the contribution, and thank you, Gaurav, for sharing the {{BHL author}} template – I was unaware of it until now! I have added the template to Jean-Théodore Descourtilz https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Th%C3%A9odore_Descourtilz, a different Théodore I very much appreciate.
Adding the template to author pages seems like a nice, simple, useful task for volunteering. I documented it as a little task to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Biodiversity_Heritage_Library/Get_involved.
Cheers, and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate it, Tiago
