https://analytics.wikimedia.org/dashboards/browsers/#all-sites-by-os/os-fami... all,
As some of you may know, we're upgrading the list of regular expressions [1] that we use to parse every request's and every event's user agent string.
You can take a look at this report [2] to find out about what the main changes consist of, but by far the main change is that all Windows NT operating systems [3] (mostly Windows 2000, XP, Vista, NT, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10) will be categorised under the OS family "Windows". Previous to this, each major Windows version was its own OS family, as you can see in the OS report card [4]. This means, among other things, that Windows will overtake Android as the number one OS family.
Other improvements include better classification of web previews from browsers and devices, identifying correctly devices that were before listed as "Generic Android" (Huawei and Xiaomi phones being the most notable example), and getting rid of some false negatives when identifying bots/spiders.
The change in the webrequest table became effective today at 16:00 UTC, and the one in EventLogging was deployed today at 20:00 UTC.
Thank you! Fran / The A Team
