hi all,
I want to know the number of pages which describe human beings included in wikipedia. I only find the living people number in "pages in category: living people". Thanks.
I guess it's at least 1,185,642, if Wikidata is to be trusted.

Oh, that data's quite old, though.

Note that fictional characters, gods and fairies may also have "person" as a main type (GND), for example:
Poseidon http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q41127
Peter Pan http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q107190
Bilbo Baggins http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q185737
so the 1M figure needs to be taken with a grain of salt if you want to count "human beings" only.

Careful, someone might be offended when you say Poseidon is fictional.
But yes, a very good point. For a few people it might be very reasonably debatable whether they are fictional, and it is unclear how to count them. Which makes the original question very hard to answer.

World is a fiction. At least, our representation of the world is a fiction, no matter how much effort you put to find a sound modelisation. From this point of view, someone offended to hear that some word refers to a fictional object, is someone who is in the delusion of delusions.
But yes, a very good point. For a few people it might be very reasonably debatable whether they are fictional, and it is unclear how to count them. Which makes the original question very hard to answer.
Some categories like "historical person", "fictional person", etc. may help. Of course sometime mythes and historical people overlap, like Pythagore, the difference being the criteria you apply to decide the ontological status of the person.

That's a funy question, which rise many questions in me. For example, in our current guideline, we are not interested in "anonymous" people who didn't reached some notability. But wouldn't you find interesting if wikidata could help us making statistics on wide population ?
With the current set of people, I may for example compute the evolution over time of the copyright median duration in a specific region. For example, in France the duration was something like 20 years after the first publication of the work. Then it jumped to 50 years after the authors death (Berne Covention), then 70 years after authors death. So, having a large set of authors may help to compute the authors median lifetime, and so copyright duration. A more useful idea would be to automaticaly generate a list of public domain works by region and to turn it into a todo list of "works that should be provided on wikisource/commons".
On the other hand, our data being restricted to famous people, we wouldn't be able to compute the evolution of median lifetime in a specific region, regardless of notability. I mean, our notability policy prevent us to provide "the sum of all knowledge". Now, I don't say we should change that and begin to collect personnal information on every one (although I heard that NSA could help us to fill our database in this way ;P ), it's just some thought I wanted to share.
