We (the analytics team) is now actively developing a pageview API which will have top articles per project among other endpoints that get data similar to what stats.grok.se is doing. You can follow along with the discussions here: https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T44259

I stopped myself short from announcing the timeline, because that's Kevin Leduc's job. We do have a timeline and I think once the quarterly planning process is done we will announce it publicly.
