The documentation for these steps has room for improvement. In particular, the SSH setup has been tripping up several people in the past. When we recently onboarded Zareen as data analysis intern in the Reading department, she wrote up some notes about the gaps that needed filling in in her case. These are linked at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Production_shell_access#Other_tips and might be helpful here too. Overall this part of the documentation could use an overhaul with input from someone who has a detailed understanding of the server setup.

Hi there,
I am the Data Analyst referred to in:
"WMDE will onboard their data analyst soon" : )
Please, just a quick check to see whether I get the things right -
feedback
appreciated:
- I need to open an Wikitech account (DONE);
- I need to register for ToolLabs (DONE; Waiting for Admin confirmation,
presumptively on my Talk Page to appear);
- I register my public RSA key with the Labs, and then what: someone
assigns
an instance to me, and then I start installing R and whatever I need
there?
Thanks a lot. I appreciate the creation of the Onboarding Data Analysis Document, but I am trying to get to a descent server in the Wikimedia environment as soon as I can :)
With best regards,
Goran S. Milovanovic, Data Analyst, WMDE

Good resources to look at are Discovery's onboarding page for data analysts https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Discovery/Team/
Analyst_onboarding
and our employee operations manual https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Discovery/Analytics
I'll try to take a look at the GDoc and offer suggestions there.

It maybe useful for us to copy some over to Wiki to pages below https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Analytics
We could create a "getting started" page from (or is there already one which I oversaw?)
