all,
As some of you may know, we're upgrading the list of regular expressions
[1] that we use to parse every request's and every event's user agent
string.
You can take a look at this report [2] to find out about what the main
changes consist of, but by far the main change is that all Windows NT
operating systems [3] (mostly Windows 2000, XP, Vista, NT, 7, 8, 8.1 and
10) will be categorised under the OS family "Windows". Previous to this,
each major Windows version was its own OS family, as you can see in the OS
report card [4]. This means, among other things, that Windows will overtake
Android as the number one OS family.
Other improvements include better classification of web previews from
browsers and devices, identifying correctly devices that were before listed
as "Generic Android" (Huawei and Xiaomi phones being the most notable
example), and getting rid of some false negatives when identifying
bots/spiders.
The change in the webrequest table became effective today at 16:00 UTC, and
the one in EventLogging was deployed today at 20:00 UTC.
Thank you!

Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask if anyone can tell me what wmf.wdqs_extract contains. I
know generally that it is the query log of the SPARQL endpoint. However,
I do not know if it is all requests, only uncached requests etc.
If anyone knows or knows where I can read up on it that would be great.
Greetings,
Adrian

As more data becomes digitized, and consumers increasingly share
personal and sensitive information with devices and apps, concerns
around data privacy are taking on greater importance. These concerns
are fueled by recent high-profile data misuse scandals that have
thrust the data gathering and privacy policies of companies into the
spotlight. Join us for a discussion of data privacy on both sides of
the pond, from the future of data privacy regulation in the US to the
recent introduction of the GDPR with its extraterritorial effect and
high maximum penalties, and the ripple effect of trends across the
globe.
This session, the Fifth Annual Kirkland & Ellis Law Forum, will bring
together leading in-house attorneys, private practitioners and

Case studies in the appropriation of ORESBy *Aaron Halfaker*ORES is an
open, transparent, and auditable machine prediction platform for
Wikipedians to help them do their work. It's currently used in 33 different
Wikimedia projects to measure the quality of content, detect vandalism,
recommend changes to articles, and to identify good faith newcomers. The
primary way that Wikipedians use ORES' predictions is through the tools
developed by volunteers. These javascript gadgets, MediaWiki extensions,
and web-based tools make up a complex ecosystem of Wikipedian processes --
encoded into software. In this presentation, Aaron will walk through a
three key tools that Wikipedians have developed that make use of ORES, and
he'll discuss how these novel process support technologies and the
discussions around them have prompted Wikipedians to reflect on their work
processes.
Exploring Wikimedia Donation PatternsBy *Gary Hsieh*Every year, Wikimedia
Foundation relies on fundraising campaigns to help maintain the services it
provides to millions of people worldwide. However, despite a large number
of individuals who donate through these campaigns, these donors represent
only a small percentage of Wikimedia users. In this work, we seek to
advance our understanding of donors and their donation behaviors. Our
findings offer insights to improve fundraising campaigns and to limit the
burden of these campaigns on Wikipedia visitors.

Hello Dear Analytics team,
I have a question about WikiMetrics from WMUK. I have users e.g. user Sian
EJ and user Llywelyn2000, if I ran reports on these usernames in
WikiMetrics with central outh authentication WikiData would not appear
amongst the projects for them at all while if we check their contribution
on WikiData, there is clearly activity for the same period: e.g.
https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Special:
Contributions/Sian_EJ&offset=&limit=500&target=Sian+EJ
Do you happen to know about a potential problem with authenticating the
wikidata accounts through central auth? For other users we do not have the
same problem so it might be connected to something else. Can you please
look into it for us?
Thank you very much for your opinion on this matter!!!
Wishing a lovely day,
Agnes

Hello everyone,
I would like to share my deepest gratitude for everyone who responded to
the Wikimedia Communities and Contributors Survey. The survey has already
closed for this year. The quality of the results has improved because more
people responded. We heard from over 200 people who work in volunteer
developer spaces like Phabricator, IRC, Mediawiki, mailing lists, and many
others, which is a solid increase from last year.
We are working on analyzing the data already and hope to have something
published on meta in a couple months. Be sure to watch Community Engagement
Insights <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Engagement_Insights>
for when we publish the reports. We will also message those individuals who
signed up on the thank you page or sent us an email to receive updates
about the report. Feel free to reach out to me directly at egalvez[at]
wikimedia.org or at my talk page on meta
<https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:EGalvez_(WMF)>.
Thank you again to everyone for sharing your opinions with us!
