Hi,
it seems that since some hours, the analytics s1 slave
(s1-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet, db1047.eqiad.wmnet) database cannot
by reached at all via mysql.
This affects all services using enwiki (like geowiki), but also
all services relying on EventLogging.
I filed RT ticket #7385:
https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=7385
Best regards,
Christian
P.S.: Sean indicated [1] that there are problems around db1047 and
masters, so it might be a related, temporary issue. But Icinga shows
also non-db related critical errors.

s1-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet/db1047 seems to be effectively down for
database access.
Originally, it was showing odd behavior, such as hanging on a simple
query against EventLogging with a LIMIT 1. Now, I can't even connect.
Running:
mysql -u research
on stat1003 gives:
ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on
's1-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet' (110)
When it's back up, I will need to verify a new EventLogging instrumentation.

Hi all,
I assume that the db1047 migration is over now, since I'm seeing recent
data on db1047. I was looking at data this morning and noticed that there
was a gap in the EventLogging data on db1047:
for table MultimediaViewerVersusPageFilePerformance_7907636
the id jumps from 190 to 203. You can see it for yourself by running:
SELECT id FROM MultimediaViewerVersusPageFilePerformance_7907636 WHERE id >
180 AND id < 210
After id 203 no problem, all the data is there, but we're definitely
missing data between those 2 ids. I'm certain of it because these events
come from a test that records 6 rows per run, and the one appearing at 203
is truncated, with only 4 rows.
Is the missing data on db1048 and not replicated to db1047? Or is it lost
due to writes that happened during the migration?
Hi,
* Do the pageview statistics on stats.grok.se include "views" from registered bot accounts?
* Do the pageview statistics on stats.grok.se include "views" from known and/or likely web crawlers?
* Do the pageview statistics on stats.grok.se include mobile views?
* Do the pageview statistics on stats.grok.se include refreshes when an editor presses the preview button?
* I think it would be desirable to add an https option to stats.grok.se so that viewers' interests in page readership statistics are more private.
* There is an issue in the statistics given at [1]. As you can see from [2] editors created and edited the project page on days when stats.grok.se said there were no pageviews. This may be the result of a page move [3] [4] and the pre-move views were not integrated into the results shown in [1]. Is this the expected and desired behavior? From my point of view as a Signpost author, this is undesirable as we try to track our readership statistics. I think it is the case that if page A is moved to new page B then the statistics for page A should be integrated into those for
page B and a notice should be given to the viewer that the statistics for page B includes those from page A which was moved on date X. This problem may affect other pages that are the subject of mergers. I think it would be the case that if page A is merged into page B then we would want some notice to appear on stats.grok.se alerting the viewer that there was a merger, the date of the merger, and offering the viewer a way to select statistics with and without the historical information from page A as they look at the viewership statistics for page B.
Thanks,
Pine

Hello analytics team,
I'm running an event in London at the end of May about the design and
community of the Wikimedia projects, as part of the run up to Wikimania in
August. Brandon, Fabrice and Philippe have agreed to take part in
discussions via teleconference. Would any of you be interested in taking
part as well?

I've split up the Media Viewer limn dashboard into a global one and one
dashboard per pilot site. We'll shortly be adding more pilot site
dashboards. For an up-to-date list of Media Viewer's limn dashboards, visit
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Multimedia/Metrics
Also in this update were new actions (no data yet since the change to
record those actions just hit master) and key percentiles, following
Nuria's recommendation, which I was able to generate with MariaDB thanks to
a horrid trick described here:

>
> We're going to have Maryana (at 100%) and DanG (at 50%) PM mobile web and apps. We still need to figure out the details of who covers what (e.g., Maryana --> web, Dan --> apps; vice versa; Maryana + DanG cover both as a team), but it will be some combination of the two.
>
> The plan right now is to have DanG work with mobile for about 3 months, and then go back to Platform. Maryana is likely to stay with the team for ~6 months, but let's keep this open as the timing may be influenced by when we can find Kenan's backfill. Please note that Kenan's backfill is going to be a general PM role. As I mentioned to the folks in the office, I'd like to move to a model where are of our PMs are part mobile PMs.
>
> We're targeting this coming Tuesday (4/29) for the handoff from Kenan to Maryana and DanG. I'm hoping we can transition both mobile web and app product ownership on Tuesday, but may need to do one first depending on how long the PM planning takes (e.g., bringing Maryana + DanG up to speed on backlogs, Maryana also needs to transition Flow to DannyH).

Hi all,
I am the new Product Manager for Analytics at Wikimedia. I have been on
the job for a few weeks now and still have lots to learn :-) I am writing
to let you know about a one-off change in the development team's work
schedule.
The analytics team is canceling it's upcoming [Agile/Scrum] sprint
scheduled to start May 1st and end May 13th. The showcase on May 13th is
canceled as well. The Analytics team has off-site meetings beginning May
5th and will be at the Wikimedia Hackathon in Zurich until May 11th.
We will resume our regularly scheduled 2-week sprints and respective
meetings when we are back.
Sincerely,
Kevin Leduc
Hi,
one might be tempted to think that the pmtpa data center having its
servers shut down today should not affect the analytics database
slaves, as they come with “eqiad” in their name:
s[1-7]-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet
.
But it seems at least our s7 slave went down while pmtpa machines are
taken down.
As that looked suspicious, I tried to only look at the first
indirection of the slaves' hostnames, which unmasked all our slaves
(except s1, and s5) as being just CNAMEs for pmtpa machines:
* s2-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet (db69.pmtpa.wmnet)
* s3-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet (db71.pmtpa.wmnet)
* s4-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet (db72.pmtpa.wmnet)
* s6-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet (db74.pmtpa.wmnet)
* s7-analytics-slave.eqiad.wmnet (db68.pmtpa.wmnet)
The s7 slave is already being unreachable at the time of writing. I
guess due to the pmpta servers being taken offline. And I expect the
remaining ones in the above list to go down soon as well.
I filed RT #7330 about it:
https://rt.wikimedia.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=7330
Not clear when replacements will be available or how to
proceed. Waiting for a response from Ops.
Best regards,
Christian
