Welcome to the Wikipedia Education Update — a newsletter from the Wikimedia Foundation
that is distributed the first and third Tuesday of each month. Someone from our staff has
talked with you about our Wikipedia Education Program to bring Wikipedia into higher
education classrooms around the world, and we wanted to keep you in the loop on all of our
exciting activities. If you would prefer not to receive these messages, simply reply to
the email and ask for your address to be removed. Learn more about subscribing or read the

Nepal kicks off Wikipedia Education Program pilot
The Wikimedians of Nepal user group ran a small pilot of the Wikipedia Education Program
this summer at Islington College in Kathmandu. Around 150 students expressed interest in
participating in the education program pilot, but the team narrowed it to 25 of the most
promising students. Ambassadors trained students in editing, and they each worked on three
different articles on the Nepali Wikipedia, including adding photos they'd taken and
writing the article. Students who successfully completed the assignment even received a
"Wikipedia Drivers License"! Read more about the pilot program in Nepal.

Learn about education programs in 60+ countries
Did you know that educational efforts are underway in more than 60 countries worldwide?
Some of these editions of the Wikipedia Education Program are small efforts in one or two
classrooms, while others are large and experienced programs. Education Program Manager
Sophie Österberg has been creating an in-depth look at the activities in each country. See
the work being done in each country and update with additional information if you know
it!

Provide feedback on Welcome to Wikipedia brochure
Have you used the "Welcome to Wikipedia" brochure to teach students how to edit?
We're looking to do an overhaul of the brochure in the coming months, and we're
actively seeking feedback about what you like and don't like about the current version
of the brochure. Feedback is welcomed either on wiki or via email. See more information
and leave your feedback.

NY Times covers med school's Wikipedia class
The University of California at San Francisco's medical school is offering a class on
Wikipedia editing that students can take for credit this term. Offered in conjunction with
the Wiki Project Med Foundation, the course is believed to be the first from a medical
school in which students get credit for writing Wikipedia articles on medical topics. Read
a New York Times article on the course.
