*Dear all,I am excited to inform you that the African Wikimedia Developers
Project (AWMD)
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Africa_Wikimedia_Developers_Project>
will have its second training session in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. This event
was made possible thanks to a close collaboration between Wikimedia
Community User Group Côte d’Ivoire (WCUG-CI) and Open Foundation West
Africa, along with other local partners. From February 16 to 17, around 25
developers will learn how to improve or develop on the Mediawiki software
as well as the overall technical infrastructure of Wikimedia projects.
Following the training session in Accra last year and its encouraging
outcomes
<https://blog.wikimedia.org/2017/10/19/african-wikimedia-developer-community/>[2],
the step of Abidjan intends to build on the lessons learned so far and
continue to expand the volunteer community of the Africa Wikimedia
Developers Project (AWMD). As a reminder, AWMD is a project that focuses on
recruiting volunteer African Developers for the benefit of the Wikimedia
Movement. Its main goal is to increase the number of volunteer developers
who can solve related Wikimedia issues on the continent and in the movement
at large. Stay tuned for more updates soon!Cheers,*

how prepare for the program and/or how to volunteer as a mentor.

I've been meaning to document this for a while.
If you're finding yourself visiting Special:Export/Import often for the
purpose of MediaWiki development there is a much better way to get content
into your local wiki for testing purposes.
This short video explains how MobileFrontend extension provides tooling to
help you debug live on-wiki content via $wgMFContentProviderClass [1]

Hope it saves someone lots of time!

*Dear Wikimedia community,On behalf of this year’s Wikimania programme
committee,we are pleased to announce that Wikimania 2018, is now accepting
proposals for workshops, discussions, presentations, or research posters to
give during the conference. To read the full instructions visit the event
wiki and click on the link provided
there:https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions
<https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions>Whether you are a
community member of one of the Wikimedia projects, or a fellow open content
creator or consumer, we welcome your proposal for a session. Please forward
this information to others you think might be interested in
presenting.Deadline for submissions is 23:59 UTC on Sunday March 18, 2018.
This is approximately 6 weeks away.ThemeThis year, the conference will be
taking place in Cape Town, South Africa, where the organisers are giving
this Wikimania an unique flavor—an explicit theme based in African
philosophy: “Bridging knowledge gaps, the ubuntu way forward.”Read more
about this theme, why it was chosen, what it means for the conference
program, at the Wikimedia blog
<https://blog.wikimedia.org/2018/02/05/wikimania-cape-town-ubuntu/>.Throughout
the conference program, this theme will be tightly held, but loosely
defined - in order to encourage a diverse range of responses to the theme.
It is our hope that this change will give us the opportunity to further our
goal of creating the “sum of human knowledge”, by encouraging greater
diversity and inclusion in who participates, and what we discuss, at
Wikimania. To learn more, and to make a proposal for Wikimania Cape Town
2018, please visit:https://wikimania2018.wikimedia.org/wiki/Submissions
