Hello African Wikimedia Developers,
We now have an official Phabricator project and work board for the Africa
Wikimedia Developer program. On this work board, we will be collaborating
mostly via the featured tasks column where you all should work on tasks to
build your profiles and contribute to the Wikimedia movement via MediaWiki
and its extensions.
The work board [1] has many columns but developers should focus on the
"Featured Tasks" column which they can pick up any task from there and work
on it. I will personally curate a list of easy tasks for us to keep working
on them from time to time in order to build our profile and become better
developers.
Also, if you see an easy task you think someone can work on if you don't
have time, just make sure to edit the tasks and add a tag
"Africa-Wikimedia-Developers" on it so it can immediately appear on our
work board for someone to pick it up. The work board will go a long way to
improve on our collaboration and increase the level of focus.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me and I will get to
you or just ask on the mailing list (recommended) so that we all share
ideas. Thank you all and have a nice day. Happy Hacking!!!

Hi All,
It was extremely fun having all of you around. A lot was shared and done,
and we are excited about what will ensue the trainings. After the trainings
we all decided to keep the conversations going and the momentum to
volunteer alive through frequent updates and tasks.
For those who couldn't make it, don't feel left out, we still have plans
for you. Kindly find attached the slides from the training for your use,
and please don't hesitate to contact the team via the mailing list
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedia-developers> for
further assistance. We also encourage all participants including those who
couldn't attend to fill this feedback form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScj5i3NmZZLvxs8F47w7f-oSjGviq-HC3U…>
(https://goo.gl/e53Rpq), we promise this won't take more than 2 minutes of
your time and will help us improve subsequent events. There is an option in
the feedback form that allows for each participant to opt into a Wikimedia
Technical Events mailing list, which we encourage you to sign up for. For
those who didn't attend the training, after answering this question, the
next question will lead you directly to submit the form hence won't take
more than 30 seconds of your time.
This email will be the last that will be sent to participants via their
personal email addresses, all subsequent updates will be sent via the mailing
list
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedia-developers>,
so I entreat all those who are not yet on it to reach out to me if they
wish to be added or they can just follow the link to sign up.
It was truly a pleasure working with all of you and remember, we are the
first of a kind on the continent, so lets be proud and prove our worth! The
conversation continues on our mailing list

Hello once again,
We are just a week away from the African Wikimedia Developers (AWMD)
Training! The much anticipated training will be led by the only volunteer
developer of the Wikimedia Foundation on the continent. In the person of Alangi
Derick <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Alangi_derick>. He will be
Joining us all the way from Cameroon and he is very delighted to share
insights on how to stay relevant in the movement and the opportunities
available to developers.
We often find less participation in projects like these, that seek to help
developers improve their skills and learn in an ecosystem that is very
dynamic. Some light is shed on the project in a blog post by Truston Ailende
<http://trustonteachestech.blogspot.com.ng/2017/06/african-wikimedia-develop…>
as
he expresses how AWMD intends to change the current trend.
If you still haven't had the time to acquaint yourself with some of the
prerequisites for the training, kindly do so by visiting our page.
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/African_Wikimedia_Developers_Project> Also,
If you are unable to attend for any reason, please get in touch with
jagyepong(a)openfoundationwestafrica.org to enable us extend the slot to the
next available person.
The conversation continues on our mailing list
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedia-developers>,
our Facebook Page <https://www.facebook.com/AfricanWikimediaDevelopers/>
and on Twitter <https://twitter.com/AfricanWikiDev>!
*Venue: Impact Hub (Directions)* - https://goo.gl/maps/ne41hJJmhdm
*Time: 10:00 am - 4:00pm*
Cheers.

Dear Participant,
We are excited to welcome you to the African WIkimedia Developers Program
coming off from the *23 - 24 June 2017* at the Impact Hub
<http://accra.impacthub.net/>. We encourage you to attend both days of the
training to maximise the opportunity to fully understand and learn about
MediaWiki. Its amazing the number of people who signed up and how hard it
was for us to trim the numbers due to limited space, we however wish to
appeal to you that if you are unable to attend kindly send an email to
jagyepong(a)openfoundationwestafrica.org to allow us give the slot to the
next person.
We advice all participants to install the following free software/tools, [
Git, Apache web server, MySQL server / MariaDB server, PHP interpreter,
phpMyAdmin, Git Review, SSH if not available, Composer (PHP package
manager)] on a linux/unix based Operating System to ensure a smooth running
of the training and to also avoid delays on the day. Visit our main page
<https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/African_Wikimedia_Developers_Project> for
more information about preparing towards the event.
Participants who ticked the option to be added to the mailing list will be
added by close of today. If you didn't tick that option but will like to
join, you can do so by following the link to African Wikimedia Developers
Mailing List
<https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/african-wikimedia-developers>
.
