I've just updated the World War I Editathon page on-wiki with the details
of half a dozen academics who will be joining us on the 16th of June at the
British Library.
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/World_War_I/World_War_I_Editathon
They have expertise in a fascinating range of subjects, ranging from the
military history of the War through to its impact on the Church, medicine,
psychiatry, literature and covering geographical areas including Britain
and Ireland, the Western Front, Turkey and the Middle East, India and
South-East Asia.
If you've already signed up - have a look at the academics' profiles and
areas of interest and see where you might like to pick their brains!
(Obviously, you're welcome to come along and edit any subject you want, but
it would be great if we could get the most out of the academics who are
coming along!)
If you haven't yet signed up - there is still time! (Wikimedia UK can pay
travel expenses for Wikimedians who are coming if required, and lunch is
included!).
Thanks,
Chris

Obviously very nice, just wondered if anyone else here had seen it /
written it / etc ;-)

If you're not already aware, the New York City chapter is organising a
"special pre-Wikimania weekend in New York City":
http://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimania_Takes_Manhattan
The weekend before Wikimania (ie. Friday 6 July to Monday 9 July),
there will be lots of events in NYC, followed by a coach to Washington
DC on the Monday, ready for the hacking days, etc., which start on the
Tuesday.
I'm going to be going (having looked at flights, it seems that a
return from London to NYC is significantly cheaper than from London to
DC, and you get to visit two US cities). They are going to be
finalising the list for the coach soon (there are limited seats), so
sign up on that page if you want to come.
Part of the weekend will be a "Wiki World's Fair":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_World%27s_Fair
I've been asked to see if we can set up a UK booth. Are any WMUK
trustees or staff thinking of going that would like to run a UK booth?
If not, are there any random UK Wikimedians that would like to help me
run a booth? Would anyone like to produce some posters for the booth?
Can the office provide a box of stuff to give away to people (both
useful brochures and leaflets, and fun stuff)?
Andrew Turvey has quit as listadmin so we could probably do with a spare.
Present admins are me, James Forrester, Mike Peel and Richard Symonds.
Mailman is easy to administer. The workload is minimal - checking the
spam filter when you can be bothered.
Any volunteers? Please email wikimediauk-l-owner(a)lists.wikimedia.org .

Dear All,
There are still some spaces for the *GLAMcamp London 2012 for 8th June*,
taking place in *Mozilla Spaces* in Leicester Square.
Friday 8 June 10.30 - 17.00 lunch included.
Spaces limited to 15, so preference will be for the most active GLAM
ambassadors based in the UK.
The reservation page is at
http://uk.wikimedia.org/wiki/GLAMcamp_London_2012. Please sign up now
or miss your chance!
This will focus on the September GLAM WIKI conference and setting up how we
are going to move beyond a single budget holder to having a more formal
sub-committee.
This will be an informal event, but as with last year's GLAM networking
event there will be the opportunity to present on your special areas.
Please come for a chance to network with others, and see the new Mozilla
Spaces office.
Thank you,
Daria

What I love is the gain I get when the cockfight. Read on. A disorderly break-up of the euro zone could push Brent crude prices to as low as $60 a barrel amid the resulting sharp European recession and negative global economic consequences, Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAC) said Friday. "If policy makers were unable to stem the contagion following Greece's exit from the euro, it could potentially lead to a chain reaction where other countries have few options but to opt out of the currency union as well," the bank said in a research note. In the event of the disorderly broad euro zone break-up, oil demand in developed European economies could drop by 2 million barrels a day if the region's economy shrinks by 10%, the bank said. "This could create a large demand gap in global oil balances resulting in oil prices falling sharply," it added. But if Greece is the only country to leave the euro zone, Brent could fall to $80 a barrel, while the benchmark
could drop to $100 a barrel if the possibility of Greece leaving the euro is explored but does not materialize, Bank of America Merrill Lynch said. I thank you FirozaliA.Mulla DBA
