Subject: [Wikimedia Announcements] Your support is wanted: The WMF
Board of Trustees is looking for a new Board member
To: wikimediaannounce-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org
Dear all,
The Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees is currently looking for an
additional appointed trustee to fill the seat currently held by
Bishakha Datta, who has announced that she plans to step down at the
end of her term in December 2014. The Board Governance Committee is
leading the search to fill the position on behalf of the Board. Please
spread the word to those you would like to see on the Board!
The Board functions as a governance body that is ultimately
responsible for the Wikimedia Foundation and its activities,
supervises the disposition and solicitation of donations, and oversees
the management of the organization. To find out more about the
responsibilities and workings of the Board you can have a look at the
Board handbook.[1]
We are seeking a trustee who is a leader in their field and who is
committed to Wikimedia's values.[2] We are also particularly looking
for someone with technical experience, who can bring expertise with
strategic development and technical organizations to the Board. As
always, the Board values diversity in its members.
Appointments are for a two-year term and involve 3-4 in-person
meetings throughout the year, at least two in San Francisco, as well
as online work and participation in a Board committee.
If you would like to suggest a name or nominate someone, please
contact Ewen McAlpine at emcalpine(a)wikimedia.org, who is handling
initial contact for the committee.
Kind regards,
María
Chair, Board Governance Committee

Dear all,
Odia Wikisource went live yesterday and is available at:
https://or.wikisource.org. It was in the main Wikisource for about 1.9
years and has an active community consisting 8 contributors. So far almost
3 books have been digitized. Recently a few new contributors joined and
are digitizing Odia Bhagabata.
CIS-A2K congratulates the community and thank all the contributors,
Wikimedia Language Committee, Wikimedia Foundation Board and all the
Wikimedians who have helped to set up the wiki.
A brief post on this:

Dear all,
The Kannada Wikimedia community, in collaboration with CIS-A2K, is glad to
share that almost all of the works by Niranjana will be re-licensed under
CC-BY-SA 4.0 on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava.
Niranjana (1924-1992) was the pseudonym of Kulkund Shivarao, a prominent
Kannada writer of the 20th century and a leading figure in the Progressive
Writers' Movement. His prolific output, across nearly five decades,
included novels, short stories, plays, biographies, political commentary,
and translations. He was a regular columnist in the Kannada newspapers and
magazines. Among his achievements as an editor are Jnana Gangotri, a
7-volume encyclopedia for young people, and a 25-volume compilation of the
world's greatest short stories.
A total of 55 Kannada books by Niranjana will be re-licensed. This could be
the single largest and most comprehensive individual collection of a writer
to be released under CC-BY-SA 4.0 in any of the Indian languages. We are
planning to have a formal event to celebrate this, along with an
orientation session on the importance of Creative Commons for growing open
knowledge in Kannada and Kannada Wikisource during the first week of
November 2014. The exact event details will be communicated shortly. The
Kannada Wikimedia community and CIS-A2K would be very happy if you could be
present for this event. We would like to acknowledge the great initiative
shown by Dr. Tejaswini Niranjana (also Advisor to CIS-A2K) in getting the
below works released under CC-BY-SA 4.0.

I pointed chapter MoA and asked you to read that .
All needed documents are public and linked at
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Elections2014
Read that and if you think it is not correct, point the the provision to
open election process to non members of a society . As a volunteer body for
conducting elections, we depends upon legal opinion from WMIN in this
regard as official . You can check the same with WMIN if needed .
If you have any more questions ask it in
http://wiki.wikimedia.in/Talk:Elections2014 page.
This is my last response here .
Anivar
I'm still getting these mails.
Jayanta da, please look into the allegations made by this anonymous
account.

QUOTE: "A member informed Anivar and informed that non-members of a
society must not interfere with its election process as per the
Karnataka Society rules "
Please cite the rule. Otherwise explain why the "COMMUNITY" was
invited to pose queries to candidates till 15.Nov.2014. It has always
been clearly understood that "community" refers to "Wikipedia users
community" and Wikimedia "India" is known as "Chapter".
Is it your case that candidates for WMIN should not reply to queries
from the community ?
Do you have anything to hide ? All these files of pornography, child
pornography and LGBT pornography which is being distributed from your
filthy website ? Who is packing WMIN EC with LGBT activists ? Why do
you have so many fake members that most votes are invariably cast
through postal ballots ?
Insofar as WMIN Chapter is concerned, it is essentially restricted in
its operations to state of Karnataka. If you want to operate pan-India
register yourself under a central enactment like the 1860 Act or Multi
States Co-op Act. Until then call yourself Wikimedia Chapter or
Wikimedia Chapter (Karnataka) and do not publish your obscene
pornography outside the state of Karnataka.
