This month, we have the opportunity of choosing two articles for the
WikiProject India Collaboration of the Month (abbreviated as INCOTM).
Vide the discussion on India Noticeboard, we need to choose one article to
improve/develop and one former Good Article/Featured Article which will
have to be improved and restored to GA/FA status by improving it and making
it undergo the process thereby restoring it to its previous status.
Please have a look and vote here without fail :

Hi,
This is to inform you that Moksh and I have been invited to conduct a
one hour workshop this Friday, 6 January 2012 at Text100, a PR firm (who were media
partners at WCI 2011). This will be at their Mumbai office and will be
relayed live to all their offices across India and possibly other
countries as well.
We will be talking about the Wikipedia Philosophy/5 Pillars,
Reliable sources, editing tutorial and COI - what to avoid etc. Any suggestions on other inclusions would be appreciated.
Kind Regards,
hi,
There are ancient Indian works in libraries and archives abroad. There are
also a few contemproary translations of this work into English in the same
libraries and archives. Are such works in the public domain? Are they on
any open knowledge platforms? Can the works not already here be brought
onto online resources such as Wikisource?
warm regards,
Pradeep

Hey guys
Just a note to advertise the Article Feedback Tool 5 development
team's next office hours, which will be held in #wikimedia-office at
19:00 UTC this coming Friday. We'll be discussing quite a few
important or otherwise interesting things, including:
*Final selection of a feedback design;
*An upcoming RfC on what classes of user can use what features;
*And some initial peeks at what the feedback page itself will look like.
Hope to see you all there! If you can't make it, drop me a note
off-list and I'm happy to forward you the logs when it's over. I'll be
staying in the chan until 23:00 UTC to deal with any questions from
latecomers, so pop in if you have any questions and a free moment.
Thanks

*Members of Wikipedia's Wikimedia Commons (a repository of free images,
sound and other multimedia files which may be used in other projects on the
Wikimedia servers) will move around in Ahmedabad on January 3 from 8.30am
to 1pm clicking pictures of prominent places of the city and will upload
them on the internet through Creative Commons Licenses.*
*
*
*Explaining this, treasurer, Wikimedia India, Anirudh Bhati, informed that
under the aegis of this license, pictorial facts about the city will be
available to users free of cost. "The license is called, 'Creative Commons
Attribution - Sharealike License' and under this licensing certificate, we
can release to media in a manner that can be used for commercial and
non-commercial purposes without any royalty. Even now people make use of
pictures without paying royalty, but that is unethical", Bhati said.*
*
*
*Currently, pictures and matter available online are copyright of authors.
However, this licence will help end users to download pictures and also
modify them as per their requirements, without explicit permission of the
authors, Bhati said.*
*
*
*"By the release of creative works, free of cost, we are trying to create
culture and environment which is free."*
*
*
*"For this purpose, on January 3, nearly 230 people will gather outside
Gandhi Ashram. We will divide the group into four teams and will coordinate
accordingly. These pictures will then be uploaded in Wikimedia Commons and
will be made available to all Wikipedias", Bhati informed. Noopur
Raval, another member of Wikimedia India, said: "This will help us
place Ahmedabad
city on the global world."*

Aliens invaded Tamil Nadu, left their Spacship and now it is a Toll Plaza.

Just thought I'd point this out. I believe it is due to the efforts of
Mr. Shrinivasan of the ILUG-C, who earlier coded the upload wizard for
Linux users. He's released a Tamil FOSS magazine. Link-

Dear Wikipedians.
Wish you all a great and joyous 2012.
The new year is probably a good time to kick off a new initiative around
GLAM (Museums).
Initiative Context
Museums are important cultural institutions for GLAM initiatives. There is
no complete and reliable list Museums across India. This is due to various
reasons like geographical distribution and jurisdiction. These institutions
have a wealth of cultural knowledge and artifacts and therefore are key to
partner with.
Some of the incredible artifacts they house are not widely known to the
general public. As an example Mysore museums house the Halmidi inscription
has the oldest kannada inscriptions that go back to 400-500 AD.
Museums can come under various jurisdictions like the following:
- Archaeological survey of India
- Central ministries - Culture, Rail, etc
- State archaeology departments
- Run by public sectors
- Private ownership
- Run by Trusts or NGOs
Museums can cover various themes:
- Heritage
- Archaeological
- Art and Crafts
- Folk forms/culture
- Science
- and more...
What needs to be done?
Catalog and compile a reliable list of Museums for each of the states and
UTs in the country. This will need to done by reviewing various sources
online, state and central departments.
Subsequently a subset of these could be chosen for specific initiatives.
Call for volunteers
This is a for volunteers to assist with this compilation. We need one
volunteer for each of the states.
Please volunteer here: http://wiki.wikimedia.in/List_of_Museums_in_India
Starting point for GLAM initiatives: http://wiki.wikimedia.in/GLAM_India
Look forward to your active participation. Thank you!

Arun
