Hi Wiki-Yorkers,
Wikipedia Day is always a big day for Wikimedia NYC. While we cannot meet
in person, we still have something special planned. We will begin the event
with the debut of a new video celebrating our community. This will be
followed by a panel discussion with some of the people you'll see in the
video talking about Wikipedia's 20th anniversary, Wikimedia New York City,
and the amazing work they do on Wikimedia projects.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Wikipedia_Day_2021
The event will be broadcast live via YouTube. Feel free to ask questions
for the panel through the chat!
We will also have some NYC wiki trivia you can participate in, with
confectionery prizes.
Friday January 15
6:00pm - 7:00 pm online via Wikimedia NYC on YouTube

Dear Wiki-Yorkers,
Wikimedia NYC is teaming up with our favorite instagram account, @
depthsofwikipedia <https://www.instagram.com/depthsofwikipedia/>, to offer
an introductory workshop and edit-a-thon from Thursday, January 7th thru
Sunday, January 10th! We'll kick things off with an online Wikipedia
workshop on January 7th, where you'll learn about Wikipedia's policies and
practices and the basics of editing. Attendees are then encouraged to make
their first edits throughout the weekend; we'll have expert Wikipedians on
hand to answer questions and provide guidance in our Discord channel.
Here's how to join us:
- Create a Wikipedia account and join our team
<https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_NYC/Depths_of_Wikip…>!
When creating an account, we recommend choosing a username that is personal
to you, but doesn't personally identify you. If you already have an
account, please join our team via the Dashboard. This helps us track
everyone who edits with us and see how many pages we add to and create!
- Join the Wikipedia Workshop
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdoSQn-5Udug0IgdG_UkB6TfyWM4M5PrZD…>!
We'll meet via Zoom at 7PM EST on Thursday, January 7th, but you must
register to receive the link. Please be sure to be on time as we'll stop
admitting attendees ten minutes after we start.
- Ask questions and meet fellow editors on Discord
<https://discord.gg/GTvNKaXkzC Ask questions and meet fellow editors on
Discord>! We'll have a team of volunteer Wikipedians on hand to help as
you make your first edits. Not share where to start? We can help with that
too.
If nothing else, be sure to register at https://forms.gle/bV7T7TLBYxuQZpcX8,
and we'll follow-up with reminders and a link to join. We look forward to
editing with you soon!
