Dear Wiki-Yorkers,
I am thrilled to invite you to join us at the WikiGap 2022 - Women, Health
& Environment Wikipedia Edit-a-thon! Knowledge is power, and Wikipedia has
the potential to shape our view of the world. But there is a great
imbalance when it comes to representation on Wikipedia, like in society at
large. There are four times as many articles about men as there are about
women, just one of many statistics that speak to a larger gender gap.
We want to change this.
Join us and help to close Wikipedia's gender gap by editing and creating
Wikipedia articles about Women, Health & Environment. This is a hybrid
event with in-person sessions in New York and Washington, DC as well as a
virtual session for those who wish to attend remotely. Please bring a
laptop if planning to join us in-person.
The event is organized by Wikimedia DC, Wikimedia NYC, the Embassy of
Sweden to the United States, Sweden’s Consulate General in New York, and
the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations.
**** *WikiGap Edit-a-thon* ****
*Where*: Swedish Residence (600 Park Avenue) and online!
*When:* Thursday, April 28th 9AM - 12PM
*Registration:* Sign-up on Eventbrite
<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/wikigap-2022-women-health-environment-wikipedi…>!
Registration is required.
*Safety* *protocol*: All guests must show proof of vaccination or a
negative Covid-19 test result no older than 48 hours, as well as valid
proof of ID. Masks are strongly encouraged
We look forward to editing with you soon!
Best,

Dear Wiki-Yorkers,
The April 2022 Wik-Picnic NYC and WikiSeder is a planned socially-distanced
Wiknic, Sunday April 24, 2-5pm at Brooklyn's Fort Greene Park.
You can sign up here for Sunday:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Wiknic_April_2022
Some food will be provided. However, you can volunteer to bring potluck
food, supplies and recreations as you feel inspired! Among other
activities, we will have elements of an informal WikiSeder, a secular
celebration of wiki wisdom and free culture.
Our event will be by the barbecue/picnic area of northwestern Fort Greene
Park, immediately to the left of the grand staircase leading up to the big
column of the Prison Ship Martyrs' Monument.
All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition,
to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to
respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if
appropriate.
Just a note that WikiSeder elements are a light addition to the activities
- feel free to bring all variety of breads (Passover is technically over by
the weekend), Easter eggs, anything fun from different cultural traditions!
==Bonus event on Friday Apr 22: Earth Day Edit-a-Thon==
To kick off your wiki-weekend right, we also offer a bonus event on Friday!
Sure We Can, a recycling and community center in Bushwick, Brooklyn,
invites you to join us for an online and in-person Environment of NYC -
Earth Day Edit-a-Thon on Friday April 22nd, 2022; 2-4pm.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Earth_Day-2022-SWC
This Edit-a-Thon is part of a larger Earth Day celebration hosted by Sure
We Can that runs Friday from 1-7pm and is open to the public. See this
flyer for more information: https://www.instagram.com/p/CcGr4FyuqEa/

Hello Wiki New Yorkers,
Just a reminder that the Wiki Loves NYC Parks Prospect Park photo contest
<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Prospect_Park_nature_pho…>
closes on Halloween night. If you've taken pictures of trees, plants,
birds, insects, rodents, bats, mushrooms, or any other nature in Prospect
Park, upload it via this link
<https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaign:ProspectPark> by 11:59 PM ET
on 10/31 to be eligible.to win one of the prizes. All photos of nature in
Prospect Park uploaded during the contest period will be eligible,
regardless of when the photos were taken. In other words, you're free to
upload older photos as long as they weren't already on Commons (and as long
as you took the photos yourself, of course). Good luck, and let me know if
you have questions!
The Wiki-Pavilion Picnic NYC is a planned socially-distanced Wiknic in
Brooklyn's Prospect Park to coincide with the virtual WikiConference North

historic Concert Grove Pavilion.
With participatory elements celebrating WikiProject Craft, we will have
materials and tools so you can make your own embroidered Wikimedia logo
button!
All attendees are subject to Wikimedia NYC's Code of Conduct. In addition,
to participate in person you should be vaccinated and also be sure to
respect others' personal space, and we may limit overall attendance size if
appropriate.
