Echt schade :(
Thank you very much for having tried to get a Google grant.
The work on the candidature is in any case not lost and hope will be reused next year.
Emmanuel
Hi,
First thank you for the warm welcome, and sorry that I could not finish yet the work on the symbian article.
Basically, zimlib compiles properly for symbian. The only missing point, is that I have to put the project files and patch files described in the article (currently on my wiki-home http://openzim.org/User:Cip) somewhere.
While target should be to integrate them into the projects, for now I¨d suggest to put them into the zim repository.
Currently I am working on a QT-based app using zimlib. Main target is curently symbian 3rd FP1. However, binary should work on symbian 5th as well, I just cannot test it. Furthermore, it should be recompileable for other platforms supporting QT, like Maemo, but also Linux or Windows.
App is currently in the state of a functional prototype, but it is already useable.
I have not published Code/Binary of this app yet. I am planning to publish it in the near future, probably on sourceforge. For sure I´ll keep you updated.
Best regards,
Christian Pühringer

Hi Manuel Schneider,
Thank you for submitting "openZIM" organization application to Google
Summer of Code 2010. Unfortunately, we were unable to accept your
organization's application at this time. We received many more
applications for the program than we are able to accommodate, and we
would encourage you to reapply for future instances of the program.

Hi Tommi,
I´ve included it in the build because I was not sure whether the
zimlib should support it for backward compatibility.
So if it´s not to be included, please change this in the symbian/config.h included in the patch
file I´ve sent in the last email before adding it to svn.
Best regards,
Christian

I just checked the Recent Changes in our wiki and noted that we got a
new user[1], appearantly working on using zimlib on Symbian.
Welcome cip at the openZIM project, your notes are really amazing. If
you could tell us more about your work or if you have any questions we

I find your idea really good but I have really no time left... and in the next weeks I want to prepare
the WMCH GA. I think also that I'm not the one with the best skills for that.

Yes, I have read that. BRAVO
Emmanuel
Hi,
to speed up our software development for this year I have planned to
participate at this years Google Sommer of Code, short GSoC.
In short GSoC means that Goolge is paying students to work on open
source projects.
GSoC is a mentoring program for student open source developers funded by
Google.
Mentoring organisations (such as Wikimedia Foundation or openZIM) can
apply with specific tasks they want to be done by some developer. If
approved these tasks will be advertised by Google, so students can apply
for them to take over a job. The mentoring organisations are then
obliged to help the student to get the job done and to review the
quality and performance.
Depending on the reviews Google is paying up to 5.500 USD to the student.
http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2010/faqs
I have prepared two ideas to apply for GSoC this year:
http://openzim.org/Google_Sommer_of_Code_2010
The application timeframe is very short - only from March 8th to 12th.
So we need to sort this out quick and remember that I will also need
some time to prepare all the papers.
The most important decisions to make are:
* which ideas we want to apply with
* who will do the mentoring
The mentoring is especially important. Only if the mentor is available
and competent a student will be able to do his task and get the money
(and we get the code / our idea implemented).
From a technical point of view I think that Tommi has to be the mentor.
Maybe also Mirko can enabled to do this task, but also then Tommi must
be available for technical questions.
Please answer quickly, otherwise the deadline is over and we loose this
great opportunity for progress.
/Manuel

Hi,
as I have already informed you a few weeks ago there will be a MediaWiki
Developer Workshop in April in Berlin.
The last time I have already prepared the planning page
http://openzim.org/MediaWiki_Developer_Meet-Up_2010
but there was no reaction neither on my mail nor on the planning page.
Registration for the MediaWiki Developer Meeting is open until March
21st and there are only 50 places available - so we need to decide now.
I await your answer whether we should go there and who is willing to
come until Sunday.
/Manuel

I approve the idea to go to this Mediawiki dev. Meeting but I will not be there.
Hope you Manuel will be able to find time for that.

Ok, I will take care about that. You may follow this bug:

I have currently no idea about the root cause.
Questions:
* Does it works on karmic with exactly the same kiwix-serve source code?
* Does it also failed without an index?
* What is exactly the http request: http://localhost/ ?
* Do you have the same issue with the kiwix xulrunner app?
* Which version of libmicrohttpd do you use?
I have also open a bug (critical):
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2963439&group_id=175508&at…
I'm currently on the road and do not have a Lucid system to test, but I will try to reproduce this behaviour as
soon as I will be back at home.
As this bug seems to be a kiwix specific bug I propose to continue the discussion on the bug tracker.
Thank you very much for this bug report.
