You mow the grass away before my feet, as a Dutch expression says, but I
fully support you. I was planning to learn Papiamentu/o as soon as my study
and social life would allow me to do so and then request a Wikipedia in it.
So you already have my support, though I hardly know any native speakers.
However, AFAIK Piapiamentu is just one of the official languages of Aruba
(where it is spelt /Papiament*o*/ but pronounced the same way) and is
nothing but the vernacular language on Aruba and Bonaire, where Dutch is
still the only official language. This due to a generally negative regard on
Papiamentu's abilities as a language for anything else than ordinary daily
speech (for anything about non-ordinary topics is has to borrow from Dutch,
sometimes from Spanish), not in the least by its native speakers. But maybe
they made it official in the last few months?
Node ue is right to say that there are many more languages than Sranantongo
only in Surinam. In this case, consider creating a Sarnami wikipedia as
well.
Thanks,
Wouter
