I'd rather put the braces around the part that we *do* want:
* [[{English} language]] --> [[English language|English]]
* [[George W. {Bush}]] --> [[George W. Bush|Bush]]
* [[{George }W. {Bush}]] --> [[George W. Bush|Bush]]
The last could be [[{George} W. {Bush}]] if we want to
make the parser smarter but slightly less flexible
(in a way that is implicit in Jan's version).
