Dear all,

On the blog of the Powerhouse Museum yesterday it was announced that they
have now uploaded 1000 images to the Flickr commons programme. If you havn't
seen this already I recommend checking it out.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/powerhouse_museum/ The use of this collection
in Wikimedia Commons and in Wikipedia articles was discussed by
[[PrivateMusings]] at the recent Wiki-wednesday in Sydney.

However, of particular note, is a paragraph in this blog post:

"Paula will be delivering a paper at Museums and the Web
2009<http://www.archimuse.com/mw2009/>looking specifically at the
impact of the Commons on the Powerhouse as well
as on image sales. Early evidence suggests that image sales are actually up
on last year for the very same images that we have placed in the Commons."

I think that if this statistic proves to be correct (and over a longer
period) then this will be a great boon to our discussion with organisations
who worry about "losing" their images to the internet. Hazzah!

This is the original post:

Hope you're all well,
-Liam
