Theoretically, the nearest thing to a magic bullet should be flagged
protection. It somewhat reduces the workload of people checking their
watchlists and is more consistent, because things that should have
been checked, will have been so by at least once (eventually), the
software doesn't forget they haven't been reviewed, whereas normally
they have to be spotted withiin 2 days or so before disappearing off
watchlists.

Right now there's no guarantee that the edits have been reviewed at
all, and flagged protection should at least give that level of
guarantee.
