Well-founded cynicism!  Unless critical thinking skills have been 
cultivated from an early age a person has very little on which to 
determine the quality of a particular piece of writing, and time 
pressures steal time away from any kind of reflection.  Mind meals from 
mental McDonalds! (pun on "mind" intended)
