The album cover art is part of the whole package, IMO; it's thus valid
to show it as a visual depiction even if it's not explicitly mentioned
by itself.

It is indeed, but it's not easier.
Besides, there's a long history (pre Wikipedia, heck pre internet) of
album cover art being usable as fair use when writing about albums.
