[Mediawiki-l] Search for 3 letter words / Acronyms

You have to modify your mysql configuration.  The default is to only  
index words of 4 characters or longer.  I believe the configuration  
is in my.ini.

This was actually the first question I had answered by the very  
helpful mediawiki community when I asked it many months ago.
