[Mediawiki-l] Trying to remove hostname from URLs

I reread my original email, and think I was pretty clear that I wanted
to do

   http://host.domain.local/path/to/app

from the intranet and

   https://host.domain.com/path/to/app

from the Internet. /path/to/app is an external application, and not
mediawiki, but the link had to be on mediawiki pages. Sorry if my
wording was confusing.

I'm glad you were able to discover another solution through our exchange
however. I'll put this in the toolbox for future reference when we get
to the level of using Templates. Right now, we are working on
customizing the navigation menu.

Perhaps I misunderstand, but in your original message, you wanted to
access:

   http://host.domain.local/path/to/app

from a wiki running on

   http://host.domain.com

I don't see how {{SERVER}} lets you do this. It resolves to the
basename portion of the wiki URL, not to some arbitrary name.

Or was that just a typo?

But that DOES suggest a fully general approach using identical syntax:
Templates!

I defined "Template:URL_Bytesmiths" as "http://www.Bytesmiths.com" and
now I can embed

   [{{URL_Bytesmiths]/Van Veggie Van Gogh]
