[Mediawiki-l] Navigation bar 1.5

Hello,
I know that thisquestion was asked earlier this week, but I have read all 
the documents and I cannot manage to get it working.

I want to change the nagivation bar so that it has the links that I want. 
I run 1.5.2

I copied the Navigation links array from the online manual into my 
localsettingsfile because it was not in there. I could also establish that 
these variable is not present in the defaultsetting. But changing this 
array did not make any change.

So I thought that I could do a search in all wiki files and see where e.g 
the word "community portal" occured, I found that the only place it 
occures is in language.php but changing it in that file did not make any 
good either.
