I took a stab at summarizing this thread on Meta

The three main ideas I found were

   - Offline Handheld Wikipedia Reader
   - Dead Tree Technology
   - Wikipedia TV

All three contain quite a bit of promise. What will it take to get the WMF
to broaden its distribution efforts?
