Have a look at the statistics ..
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Translating:Group_statistics You will find
that Italian can do better for the WMF used extensions. Currently only 77%
of these messages have been localised.

Wikipedia is not the only project that makes use of the Italian localisation
of MediaWiki, Commons, Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wikiversity etc all
have their Italian version. All of these will benefit when the localisation
of MediaWiki is maintained at Betawiki <http://translatewiki.net>.

I do champion the localisation of MediaWiki. Someone has to and I am
fortunate that I am not the only one who appreciates its relevance.
