I don't object to unorthodox techniques. There may be a dumb luck
element in that your need happened to coincide with the timing of an
election, but at least you had it together enough to have your
documentation organized and know where to go. That's exceptional.
BTW, I do agree with what you say about the lack of process for
rehabilitating those that are susceptible to it.
