Sadly, the main piece of software used in this course (FrameForge 3D
Studio) is only available on Windows and Mac. What's more, the
software isn't even free to use - only the demo is. In fact, all
software apart from the "other useful programs" (GIMP, Audacity) seem
to be only available on Windows/Mac and are not OSS.
This isn't necessarily a criticism. There may not be any free
alternatives (and it is better to provide a free course for what
software is available than provide no course at all). Still, I find it
a little disconcerting that some parts of Wikimedia can only be used
by Windows/Mac users. How important is "freeness" (in all its forms)
to Wikimedia projects?
